  • Our Black Experience
    2020/06/09

In light of currently experiencing the largest civil movement in history, Hailey and Ronnie use this episode to reflect on Ronnie's experiences from his past, why we are only now awakening to the depths of unjustness in our country, and how it's okay to feel everything right now as we are working through such difficult times.

    Show Highlights:

"The things I saw as a kid, they're still here. They're still a part of my soul... and they fueled my desire to fight harder and work harder. As a kid when you see people being beat, you never lose sight of that." - Ronnie

"Some of the greatest athletes had to come in from the back of the hotel. They couldn't come in through the front." - Ronnie

"I never wanted to be seen as the perceived "negative" stereotype, so I always felt like I had to prove myself." - Hailey

"Some of the greatest lessons I've learned are from people who will say ‘I've earned it.’ ” - Ronnie

"The news will show two different colors of people are doing the exact same thing, but the media will use different wording around it." - Hailey

"Unlike social media now, there was a time when you could only have room for one Angela Davis. Even though there were a number of people like her, you could only have one mic." - Ronnie

"Not everyone had family members who could share personal experiences of unjust events of the past, so they weren't aware of the true depth of racism. But today those experiences are being filmed and then going viral on social media, so a lot of people are not only shocked, but are waking up to the truths that some of us heard stories about as kids." - Hailey

"This isn't a new thing. It has been happening for years, so I hope we can educate ourselves on what has been going on forever. Take action in ways that feel good for you." - Hailey

"don't just look forward - look back. Find stories that are challenging and confronting. It's going to make your heart understand the struggles of so many people." - Ronnie

"We must give ourselves deep compassion in this time as we allow any grief, anger, or difficult emotions to pass through us." - Hailey

"In any struggle, we're always finding ourselves pursuing our best. You never know what you will be able to do to make our world better." - Ronnie

Quotes From Katina: "Many of us are on this work, gym, sleep hamster wheel and we think that’s enough, but my purpose in life is to help people seek out more." "Always question the decisions you’re making in your everyday lives and see if it’s really true to yourself." "In our world today we’re always being told how to do more, but I’m always trying to take away the noise and question if that’s necessary so I can get to the root of how it makes me feel and whether I want to keep doing it." "Often times people tell me they don’t have time to do creative things that brought them joy as a kid, but research shows that we’re spending over 11 hours a day consuming media." "I started to shift my practice to being more quiet and inward focused in the morning, and I noticed I became much more generous and patient. I felt good and began to build my mental awareness over time."

  • Resiliency and Mindfulness with Rebekah Tayebi
    2020/04/14

“If we understand what helps us become a more resilient person, we can actually deepen our resiliency zone and expand.” - Rebekah Tayebi

In this episode, Ronnie and Hailey talk to therapist and family coach Rebekah Tayebi about mindfulness, yoga, and meditation as practices that can help us come back to our bodies when faced with trauma. Learn all about the resourcing technique used to improve your current state of mind while getting to know yourself. You'll also learn to recognize the habits you have acquired from your parents, and see how to accept what you want to keep from them - while rejecting what it’s not yours in this path of life.

Enjoying suffering is a great tool that starts with acceptance. As we deal with hard times like a break-up or a loss, it's essential for us to accept the situation and be receptive so we can deal with, and even enjoy, those difficulties.

    Podcast Summary:

(00:47) - Meet Rebekah and learn the story behind the Yoga For Trauma training.

(05:31) - How returning to your body and resourcing helps to deal with trauma.

(10:05) - The importance of nurturing kids and teenagers with compassion and teaching them resiliency.

(13:44) - On greeting the habit energies from your parents and how it can enhance the healing process.

(18:28) - How acceptance can help you get through (and even enjoy) tough times.

(25:14) - Why the healing process is not a solo sport.
