あらすじ・解説

Some people in life know exactly what they want to achieve. Risk Forward is a book for the rest of us.

Many of us live in a world that's obsessed with planning, achieving, and goal setting. But how do you move forward in times when your goals aren't yet clear, your plan is still unfolding, or you can't quite see the path ahead?

Presentation strategist and performing artist Victoria Labalme has an answer to this question that's both reassuring and radically freeing.

Using skills she developed through 25 years of professional stage and screen performances, Victoria leverages her arts background to share her unique Risk Forward® methodology: a series of principles that have led to stunning results with individuals and organizations around the world.

In this audiobook, you'll discover how you can make your next move even when you're not sure where you're going. And you'll see how "risking forward" into the unknown can bring results beyond what you could have imagined.

UNLEASHED!!!

Victoria Labalme, has really removed the straight jacket with her book: RISK FORWARD!!! I am so glad that she shares the gifts which this book has to share in her own voice. Though it is a short listen/read, I found myself pausing, taking notes, and at times just staring off into space because my creative juices had been set free, and they flowed. Even paused the book at one point because a song was set free in me and I wrote that song!!! Thank you Victoria!!! I look forward to meeting you in your awesome community, and I am going to start this over for my second listen/read through!!! Much Love❤️

Good friends are recommending this and so am I

YouTube's "Anxiety Doctor,” my friend, Dr. Pam Garcy, told me enthusiastically a few days ago about a great new book. The course leader who recommended it to her, Susan Peirce Thompson, said she was already practicing ideas from it with good results.

A few days prior, television producer Robin Creaseman told me enthusiastically about a great new book written by a colleague of ours.

What are the chances that both people would be enthusiastically recommending the same new book? Slim to none? Nope, the opposite.

Despite their enthusiasm, I knew that my self-esteem couldn't handle another book of “proven formulas” for goal-setting, focus, and success. Those formulas don't work for creatives like me who prefer to zag when others zig.

I wish I enjoyed reading books as much as I enjoy buying them, but the enthusiastic tone in both friends' recommendations inspired me to try listening on Audible instead. What a pleasure!

Now I’ve also got it on Kindle, and I’m buying hard copies for friends.

Victoria LaBalme's Risk Forward has no formulas. It breaks the mold and advises you to break your own moldy old molds of how things are "supposed" to work.

This book sets you free from steps you couldn't follow anyway and helps you practice trusting your unique inner guidance instead.

I've already listened to it twice, because it helps me see that my true path will never follow the ruts of anyone else's.

Be you and it's ok!

I've read many books that tell me what I should do to be this and that.

There's books that will tell me what and why I'm doing what I do and what I should do with that. And then I can be xyz...

This book tells me who I am is ok and the trust that you have in yourself while in the unknown is ok too.

This book reaffirmed that who I am and how I got here isn't because of any book I've read. It's because I trusted my gut and I've forgotten that. Thanks for reminding me!

Overly simplistic

Of course this is my own opinion, but I cannot recommend this book. There was just nothing of substance here for me and I found it to be a disappointing listen.

Heading the Right Direction

Quick, poignant, and inspirational. Helps me feel like, "I'm Actually Doing Alright!" instead of the constant guessing "Am I Right?"

Extremely valuable nuggets packed in a couple of hours! With great resources! I loved it.

I needed to hear this - you need to start where you are, trust your inner knowing and just be you, and the rest will unfold … thank you!

Basically a pep talk without much substance

I rarely write reviews and am hesitant to take a dump on an author who's clearly done great things with her life and who, I'm sure, has words of encouragement that some may find valuable. However - especially in light of the rave reviews about this very short book (really??) - I have to say that in all honesty it left me cold.
Labalme is an upbeat, inspiring voice, And if you're looking for a pep talk where the author extols the virtues of being a generalist, of lacking a plan or a goal, and following your intuition - mostly drawn from her own life experiences, with the odd quote thrown in, then this could be the book for you. However, if you're looking for an evidence-based, actionable, proven road map to bettering your life, then I think you can safely give this a miss.
Almost all of these books suffer from the phenomenon of Survivorship Bias: the authors say "I did this and look where it got me!" The implication being: "It will work similarly for you." But I often find these tomes filled with examples that could reasonably be seen as being contradictory in the lessons taken from them: the author cites examples of success and failure in her life, or the lives of those around her, and attributes the success to adhering to her world view. Fair enough. But how sure can we be that those lessons are truly the right ones to take from these events? And how can we be sure that, when faced with a similar situation, we'll get the same positive outcome?
There's a lot of talk about being in "alignment" with your life's purpose and your spiritual health. But I'm struggling to recall any truly valuable take-aways (and I even tried re-reading it in case I'd missed something - though I gave up after about 20 minutes).
As I say: clearly Labalme speaks to some listeners. I'd recommend The Power of Daily Practice or Atomic Habits for more actionable content. And if you're interested in how generalists can succeed, try Range by David Epstein.
