Finding Flow

あらすじ・解説
Part psychological study, part self-help book, Finding Flow is a prescriptive guide that helps us reclaim ownership of our lives.
Based on a far-reaching study of thousands of individuals, Finding Flow contends that we often walk through our days unaware of and out of touch with our emotional lives. Our inattention makes us constantly bounce between two extremes: During much of the day, we live filled with the anxiety and pressures of our work and obligations, and during our leisure moments, we tend to live in passive boredom. The key, according to Csikszentmihalyi, is to challenge ourselves with tasks requiring a high degree of skill and commitment. Instead of watching television, play the piano. Transform a routine task by taking a different approach. In short, learn the joy of complete engagement. Though they appear simple, the lessons in Finding Flow are life altering.

Great book. Easy to listen and relate to.
I loved reading this book in part because it hit home on some of my own questions as to why I am unhappy and how to be more productive with my freetime.

Flow! A Great Concept to live by.
Flow! A Great concept to strive to and live by. What surprised me was how he pushed his atheism on his readers though.

An evidence based approach to truly living
The author has a great personal story. He has done fascinating in-depth research. He presents his prescription for living "in the flow" clearly. I heartily recommend this listen.

A few nuggets but seemed to meander
Any additional comments?
An interesting subject ("flow") but I felt that the material meandered-- felt like a collection of findings, anecdotes, opinions; some of it repetitive, some of it seemingly unrelated to "flow." Perhaps it could have been organized better. Some interesting points here and there but it didn't seem to build up to anything. In fact, the ending felt "new age," out of place, and unsatisfying.

Not as much about the subject as I had hoped...
...instead, several hours of gender work tropes... and oddly enough, some self-contradictions (the author has his own bias about genders in the workplace, and addresses mostly men). If you're interested in the research being done on flow states, or if you're a woman - you can probably skip this one.

Becomes Religion at the End
I was looking to understand more about flow, which was indeed part of the book. But it is also full of personal opinion and his beliefs about a replacement for religion.

I was expecting a guided personal development book
After hearing multiple references to this author’s wisdom from other sources, I expected more from this book. To me, it did define Flow, but did not do much of a job at giving instructions on how to move from where we are now into the flow state. Much of his examples were of people who were already experiencing flow, not of how someone went from low flow to high flow content in their life. So I feel the title of this book “Finding Flow” doesn’t fit its story. Maybe it should be called “Those Who Have Flow”. If you are looking to define flow and who achieves it and when they do, this is a good book for you. It’s not a practical guidebook.

An OK audio book
Fell a little below expectations, got repetitive in the middle and seemed to debunk religion more than talking on flow at the end

I returned
this book said nothing about flow, other than 20minutes at the end of chapter 2, haha. It was a book that explained statistics of who worked where and how people feel about work. I was so disappointed, I gave it a chance, but it never got better.
