  • Ketamine: A Powerful Tool for Mental Health Treatment (Dr. Remi Drozd)
    2024/09/06

Dr. Remi Drozd, an ER physician, shares his journey into working with psychedelics and ketamine specifically. He noticed that Western medicine couldn't effectively address mental health crisis, and after his own transformative experience with psychedelics, he realized their potential for healing.

Ketamine is most useful for depression, anxiety, and helping people who are stuck. He explains that the treatment protocol typically involves multiple sessions, with preparation and integration being key components. The success of this type of therapy, he shares, is impacted greatly by the intention of the person sitting for the session, as it sets the stage for their experience and guides their integration process.

The medicine Ketamine is a synthetic compound that has natural origins and is found to have a profound impact on the mind and body. Dr Drozd explains that it works by taking the mind offline and creating a sedative state, allowing the body to rest and relax. It has been used to treat depression, anxiety, and neuropathic pain. However, the effectiveness of ketamine therapy depends on the individual's intention and willingness to actively participate in their healing journey. They discuss the idea of spiritual bypassing, which and relies solely on the medicine without doing the necessary inner work, and how that can hinder long-term healing.

Dr. Remi tells Ryan how he believes that the future of psychedelics is expanding access and integrating psychedelic therapy into education. The ideal future is where psychedelic therapy becomes normalized and part of the standard therapeutic process. The analog to ketamine therapy could be a meaningful, mindful meditation practice that focuses on being intensely present and non-judgmental. Mindful meditation can create cross-hemispheric connections and reduce dissociation, similar to the effects of EMDR therapy.

Dr. Remi Drozd is a board certified ER physician with 15 years of experience and now owns and operates Lucid Therapeutics, a ketamine psychedelic therapy clinic in Santa Barbara California.

  • Healing from Disordered Eating By Choosing Worthiness (Jessica Battle)
    2024/09/01

In this conversation between Corban and Jessica Battle, she starts off telling a story from when she was seven years old and her father left her family in a difficult situation, and how that was the start of her damaging relationship with food. She shared how her eating choices caused shame as she grew up. At age 19 she was ready to loose weight, and did, but only with a severely limited diet, not addressing the issues that were causing the dysfunction.

When she achieved a smaller size, she got more attention and acceptance which felt damaging as it reinforced the messaging that her size was the most important part of her worth. A year later she had gained back the weight. She dieted again, but this time realized she needed to do it differently. It was more sustainable, but she still needed to address her relationship with food itself, and the reasons she used food to cope.

Finally, she committed to no longer be on a restrictive diet and felt brave enough to confront the things that were holding her back. Her personal growth was directly related to seeing herself differently, to learning and embracing her worthiness.

  • We Are All Worthy Of Love (Jono Decker)
    2024/08/31

In this conversation, Jono shares his story of being bullied as a child, at home and then at school, and the effect this had on him as a young person. He describes how watching the movie Shrek helped see healing as a process achieved in layers. His own healing began when he found a friend who felt safe to him and who he could relate to.

Jono reflects on his tendency towards kindness and the two motives for it: one was the motive of compassion, the other was the expectation that it could buy him acceptance and love. He references the book Real Love by Greg Baer and talks about conditional love, Getting and Protecting behaviors. He had to come to the place of believing that who he is is lovable.

The story continues with instability in his marriage and how he had to embrace his own worth and lovability to repair it. He states that a key realization was that all of us are worthy of love, or no one is. If only some are worthy of it, you are revealing your prejudices of what is worth loving. He realized he had to place himself in the category of lovable.

They discuss how loving ourselves frees us from needing others to reassure us of our value, and when we see ourselves as worthy and good, we start living up to that standard.

Jono Decker is a skilled therapist and the clinical director at Mended Light where he helps people work through trauma. He also watches movies and talks about them for millions of people on YouTube on Cinema Therapy.
