• 6: The System That Works... Until Someone's Gone
    2026/08/31

On a busy Monday, my cleaning tech showed up to a job the homeowner had already canceled by email that nobody in our office ever checked. The homeowner had family over, was understandably upset, and told her to leave. When we looked into it, she really had emailed us the day before to cancel, but the one person who normally checked that inbox happened to be out of the office, and nobody else thought to look.

That wasn't a story about a bad employee. It was a story about a system that only worked if the right person remembered to check it. In this episode I break down why a system that depends on someone remembering isn't reliable, and how I built systems that don't rely on memory using one simple tool.

I also walk through the five areas every business already has systems in, whether they're documented or not, and a simple exercise you can run this week to find the one process in your business that's quietly depending on somebody remembering to do it.

  • 5: How Do I Become the Leader My Team Actually Needs?
    2026/08/24

I forgot to pick up my daughter from an early release day because I was too buried answering every question my team brought me. Every problem came to me, every decision came to me, and I thought that meant I was leading. It didn't.

In this episode I break down the real difference between managing and leading. A manager asks, how do I make sure this gets done? A leader asks, how do I help this person become capable of doing this without me? For years I just solved every problem the moment it landed on my desk. It was fast, but it wasn't teaching anybody how to think.

I share what changed when we hired our first fully remote employee, the one simple question that gets your team thinking instead of just waiting for your answer, and the guardrails I use to decide which decisions I can hand off completely and which ones still need me. If you've ever wondered how to empower your team to make decisions instead of just handing off tasks, this episode is for you.

  • 4: Am I Building a Business or Just Creating a Job for Myself
    2026/08/17

I used to sit in my car dreading Friday, the one day nobody else touched because I never let them near the bookkeeping at all. I'd stay up until two in the morning running numbers while my wife slept beside me, wondering if dreading a single day of the week like a root canal was really what owning a business was supposed to feel like.

That question is what led me to the real difference between building a business and just creating a job for myself. Building a business means systemizing real processes and trusting your team to run them. Building a job means one of two things: either you're doing everything yourself, or you've technically delegated a task while still micromanaging it so closely that nothing actually changed. I learned to delegate without micromanaging the hard way, and it cost me more than late nights before I fixed it.

Holding onto bookkeeping myself eventually sent me to the hospital with what I thought was a heart attack and turned out to be anxiety. I share what finally got the task off my plate for good: documenting the process in real detail and building in a real trial period, instead of just handing something off and hoping for the best.

  • 3: Why Do My Employees Stop Caring About My Business
    2026/08/10

If your team seems disengaged, quiet, and doing only what they're told, I used to blame them too, until I found the real cause. At Primavera, back when I only had two or three people on my office team, I started noticing the energy had changed. Jobs were still getting done and customers were still taken care of, but nobody was bringing ideas anymore. I was frustrated and thought, I've got good people here, why do I have to hold everyone's hand? Then I asked myself a different question: had I actually given them a reason to care?

The honest answer was no. All my expectations lived in my head. I'd never written them down or connected them to anything bigger, so I was frustrated with my team for missing a standard I'd never actually set. In this episode I break down the three things that almost always cause disengagement: people don't know what winning looks like, they don't feel like their work matters, and they don't feel seen. Every one of those comes back to leadership, not the team.

When you chalk disengagement up to a people problem, you end up carrying your team instead of leading it, and that exhaustion follows you home. I share exactly how I fixed it at Primavera, including the video I now show new hires that reframes cleaning toilets into saving marriages, and the three questions I want you to ask about one role on your team today.

  • 2: I Lost My Entire Office Team. Here's What It Taught Me.
    2026/08/10

One summer, I lost my entire office team, one person at a time, and discovered that none of it was ever written down. I walk through what happened at Primavera, my home cleaning company: a scheduler let go, a field manager who quit within a week, a customer service rep who left to start a competing company with my own documents in hand, and an ops manager who gave notice on top of it all.

I explain why this wasn't a story about a bad team. It was a story about a business I had never built to survive people leaving. Every process lived in someone's head, and when they left, the knowledge left with them. The easy feeling was borrowed, and I was paying it back with interest. I break down the real cost of that kind of fragility, and it's not just the operational scramble. It followed me home, into moments with my wife and kids where I was physically present but mentally still solving problems at work.

I share exactly what changed after that summer: instead of rebuilding around new people, I started documenting the processes that were breaking first and turning them into simple checklists my team could actually use. The next time I had to let someone go, the transition finally felt smooth, because the knowledge was already out of one person's head and into the business.

  • 1: How Do I Build a Business That Runs Without Me?
    2026/08/10

What would happen if I disappeared from my business for two weeks? No email, no phone, no decisions. That's the question I couldn't shake, and it's the one that changed how I run my company. I grew up watching my mom run our family business as a single parent, working so hard we didn't take a vacation for eleven years. Years later, as an owner myself, I built the exact same pattern: more revenue, more team, more responsibility resting entirely on me.

In this episode I break down how that dependency gets built one small decision at a time. Someone asks a quick question, I answer it because it's faster, and soon they stop deciding anything without me. I explain why being needed for everything isn't a sign of strong leadership, it's a sign the business is missing systems. And I reframe systems and SOPs as more than an efficiency tool. Systems are an act of love. They're what buy back time with the people who matter most.

If you've ever been physically with your family while your brain stayed at work, this episode will hit close to home. I leave you with one question to sit with: if you disappeared from your business tomorrow, what's the first thing that would break?
