  • Making Yoga and Wellness Accessible with Rodrigo Souza
    2023/08/09

    In this episode I welcome Rodrigo Souza for a conversation about accessible yoga and wellness. Rodrigo shares his journey to becoming an accessible and adaptive yoga instructor, and how people who have experienced trauma and disability can find some relief with yoga.

     

    Rodrigo Souza (he/him) is an RYT 200 Adaptive & Accessible Yoga teacher with experience in teaching yoga to folks who have gone through Trauma & Disability. 

     

    Through direct personal experience with traumatic injury, and chronic pain, and discovering the need to take charge of his recovery to optimize long-term well-being, Rodrigo decided to become a Yoga teacher and teach from his own experience, creating Allihopa Accessible & Adaptive Virtual Yoga Studio.

     

    He received his Adaptive yoga certification training under Matthew Sanford, the leading pioneer and “Jedi” of the Adaptive Yoga World. 

     

    He is focused on creating a supportive community for those who have experienced trauma & disability through Adaptive yoga.

    Rashida Thompson is a mama of 1, postpartum depression survivor, podcast host & coach to new moms who are struggling with finding themselves again after having a baby.

     

    Rashida’s transition into motherhood was the catalyst for beginning a wellness journey that would help her navigate the emotional rollercoaster of raising a daughter while rediscovering her own identity in the process.

  • Experience Wellness Through a Plant-Based Lifestyle with Dr. Judy Brangman

    In episode 8 of More Than Yoga I have a conversation with the Plant Based MD, Dr. Judy Brangman, about how a plant-based diet can support our overall health and well-being.

    Dr. Judy Brangman, MD, DipABLM, is a board-certified Internal Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine physician. Dr. Judy obtained her Doctor of Medicine degree from Wake Forest School of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine residency at East Carolina University/Vidant Hospital. She holds a Certificate in Plant Based Nutrition from T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies. Dr. Judy has been plant based for over 8 years. She is a frequently sought after speaker on plant based nutrition and lifestyle medicine and has spoken at conferences, churches, and community events. Dr. Judy is an active member of various professional organizations including the Plant Based Prevention of Disease Non-Profit, American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and American College of Physicians.

    For the past decade, Dr. Judy has worked in various roles including primary care, lifestyle medicine consultant, and as a hospitalist physician. Over the years, she has helped countless individuals lose weight, reverse type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. In 2023, Dr. Judy transitioned out of clinical medicine and is currently an Associate Medical Director for a utilization management program. Dr. Judy now offers life coaching where she helps Black, Christian, plant based women walk boldly in their purpose in spite of their past. Dr. Judy believes that the only things that matter in this life are knowing God intimately and walking boldly in your purpose. Everything else falls into place, once you have these two things. Dr. Judy is originally from Bermuda and currently resides in Raleigh, NC. Having discovered the freedom and joy that comes from knowing God intimately, following your calling, and walking in your purpose, Dr. Judy’s goal in this next season of her life is to show other Black Christian women how to do the same.

  • Wellness for Holistic Entrepreneurs with Steph Ball-Mitchell

    Episode six of More Than Yoga is all about wellness for holistic entrepreneurs. I'm joined by Steph Ball-Mitchell, founder of Yoga & Ayurveda Center and Online Yoga School.

    Steph has 25 years of experience in yoga and movement. Her understanding of yoga and the human body has been influenced by lifelong dancing and holistic health. She found her life's purpose in helping people become happier and healthier through her own healing journey. Steph assists her students in knowing the joy and wonderment of integrating the mind and body. She encourages an authentic and life-nurturing practice, one that brings greater consciousness to each moment and every movement of the body with a heavy emphasis on breath. With a masters degree in counseling, Steph brings awareness, acceptance and a down to earth approach to her classes.

    Steph founded Yoga and Ayurveda Center with her husband. They launched Online Yoga School to support their local trainings and have recently launched a virtual yoga studio to accommodate the international community of trainees.

  • Qigong and Wellness During Recovery with Steven Washington

    In episode five of More Than Yoga I have a heartfelt conversation with Steven Washington. We discuss his journey with Qigong and the role self-care played during his recovery.

     

    Steven Washington is the author of Recovering You: Soul Care and Mindful Movement for Overcoming Addiction, released in November of 2022. As a former professional dancer who performed on Broadway in Disney’s The Lion King, his love of movement inspired him to become the highly acclaimed Qigong and Pilates teacher that he is today. Steven lives a joyful life of recovery, and is passionate about helping others as they navigate towards health and happiness. He offers Qigong, Pilates, dance, meditation, laughter, and more through, SWE Studio, a monthly membership on his website.
