これほどスケールの大きな小説は古今東西なかなかないのではと思う。長さだけ見れば他にもあるが、複数の一見ランダムなテーマが絡まり、重なりあって、壮大なフーガのように死と暴力と喪失の世界観が提示される。小手先で事前にプロットを仕込んだのではこうはなるまい。まさに小説の醍醐味だ。
ナレーションの熱演も良い。技術的にも素晴らしい。ただ、笠原メイの章は女性が読んだ方が良かったかも。そこだけはちょっとキツイと思った。
