十代の時に書店で偶然手に取って以来最も好きなアメリカ文学の一つです。柴田先生の訳でも3〜5回は読み返していましたが今回audibleで発見したので聴いてみることに。
リスニングだけで内容が理解できるほど英語が出来るわけではないのでペーパーバックと日本語訳を用意し、文字で目で追いながら聴き、理解出来なかった段落は日本語訳で補間して読み進めました。
とにかく英文が美しい。ニューヨークの知性のある大学生の視点が見事に文章で表現されています。落ち着いた朗読も物語に合っている。日本語訳と比べると全体的により知的で洒脱な印象を受けます。英文もそれほど難しくないのも嬉しい。
ムーンパレスが好きな方、英文多読がしたいかたにお勧めできます。

The death of Auster was a great loss for each reader out there, whether they had ever read him or not (yet). Moon Palace is one of the most tender and human stories he wrote, and I will never tire of reading it. If you haven't yet, please do yourself a favor and read it.
