  • What Happens In Vagus (Nerve)?
    2026/10/08
In 2019, my voice was so hoarse that people could barely hear me. Along with my hoarse voice, I struggled to swallow food, felt a burning sensation in my chest, and on several nights woke up gasping for air—I was terrified! After consulting with two different doctors, I finally received a diagnosis: GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease. I thought, Hold on, I am not a middle-aged man! GERD was something I thought happened after years of smoking and drinking too much beer. My physician prescribed drugs (what a surprise), but not much else was suggested. So, you know me, I decided to take a deeper dive into the root cause of this disorder. Guess what? I learned that the Vagus Nerve (the longest cranial nerve in the body) was probably the key player in fixing my symptoms. I started to “work on” healing my Vagus Nerve. This included gargling and humming! Today's podcast guest, Dr. Navaz Habib, aka The Vagus Nerve Doc, confirmed that gargling and humming are two ways to support this nerve. He shared three additional suggestions that are easy to implement. I can support my Vagus Nerve in just a few minutes a day, usually while doing other simple tasks or running errands. I love that I can improve my health without setting foot in a gym! P.S. I know what you’re thinking: yes, I will still be lifting weights at the gym, ha ha. Listen to the podcast and learn Dr. Habib’s simple tips for improving vagal tone ______ Vitali I’m always looking for ways to support healthier, better-looking skin and I recently added Vitali Vita Exosomes to my skincare routine. I start with the Vita Exosomes, followed by my 3% Skin Cell Restorative Serum, GHK-Cu copper peptide and Skin Awakening Moisturizer. I’ve been really happy with the changes I’m seeing. My skin looks clearer, feels softer and I’m noticing some of my dry patches disappearing and brown patches fading. The products are an investment, but a little goes a long way. I definitely learned that after using too much in the beginning! I've been using them all summer, and I'm happy to now tell you about them! I like to try products on myself before passing them along to you :) I use the Collagen Peptides in my coffee to add protein. I find it helps stabilize my blood sugar and keep me from getting the coffee "jitters." I've been using creatine for almost three months. One of my favorite benefits is how it helps powers my muscles and mind. • My Favorite Sleep Hacks!
    2026/09/24
I received a phone call last month and was asked to give a speech to a business group. My task was to teach this group how to live longer, healthier lives with more energy and joy. Oh, and I had to do it all in fifty minutes. Challenge accepted. But where do you start when people have busy lives and don’t have much time to start a new wellness routine? Start with sleep. When you sleep, your body goes to work, cleaning out junk. During sleep, your body removes rogue cells, makes repairs, and prepares for the next day. Not getting enough sleep affects your hormones, cardiovascular system, and brain. Did you know that getting less than 6.5 hours of sleep a night also increases your appetite? Researchers have discovered that you will crave about 200+ additional calories per day. Not a big deal for a day or two; however, those extra calories will add a pound of weight every 18 days. When people ask me what habits I’ve changed since cancer, improving sleep is in my top 3. Listen to today’s short episode while I share five of my favorite sleep hacks. ______ Momentous These are my two favorite products from Momentous: Creatine and Collagen Peptides. • Quit Wrapping Your Breasts in Plastic! Easy Non-Toxic Clothing Swaps with Hannah Dunning
    2026/09/10
So, our government has removed lead from children's clothing, which should give you peace of mind about your little ones' safety. Even low levels of lead can harm brain development, especially in children, potentially causing irreversible damage. Higher levels can also affect the kidneys and nervous system in both children and adults. However, our government has NOT REMOVED LEAD from adult clothing. Please make it make sense. In today's episode, we discover how the clothing industry is truly the Wild, Wild West, with almost NO regulations to protect us from dangerous, toxic chemicals in our clothes. The Clean Clothing Chick (Hannah Dunning) shares how we can confidently do a closet makeover and still look cute without breaking the bank. When I asked Hannah, 'Where do we start when it comes to changing our wardrobes?' I have to tell you, her answer surprised me. BRAS! I know I was shocked too. She had two more suggestions that surprised me too. Tune in to today's episode to hear her non-toxic clothing hacks! ______ Body Deli Why I love the Phoenix Lift Oil from Body Deli: Botanical Powerhouses for Deep Nourishment In addition to its scientifically advanced components, Phoenix Lift Face & Neck Oil features a curated blend of nutrient-dense, natural oils: Sea Buckthorn Oil: Rich in omega fatty acids and antioxidants, it promotes skin regeneration and combats free radical damage. • Is Wheat Wrecking Your Gut?
    2026/08/20
Chatting with today’s guest, I never imagined celiac disease would come up. But then he dropped a bombshell I had never heard before. He told me that wheat used to have only 14 chromosomes, and that today’s wheat has 44 chromosomes. First of all, what the heck is a chromosome? Plant chromosomes are like instruction manuals, guiding how a plant grows, develops, and reproduces. Here’s the twist: chromosomes shape plants, we eat those plants, and they end up shaping us too! What I discovered from today’s guest, Farmer Tim, is that our bodies can easily digest wheat (ancient grains) with 14 chromosomes but struggle to process wheat with 44 chromosomes. What does this have to do with our health or cancer prevention? When your digestion falters, inflammation rises. More inflammation means more chances for disease to sneak in. Looking back, my own digestive battles before my cancer diagnosis make me wish I’d known all this sooner. Farmer Tim also shared simple ways to feed your family well on a budget and keep extra toxins off your plate. P.S. I also learned that our country mainly farmed organically until the end of World War 2. Listen to the episode to find out why! • Is Gut Health the Secret Weapon?
    2026/08/06
In 2019, I became very ill. I experienced severe reflux, which made my voice raspy and left me with a constant sore throat. At times, I would wake up at night gasping for breath, and it would take several minutes to regain control of my breathing. I went from doctor to doctor... What was happening to me? Finally, someone diagnosed me with GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). But hold on, doesn't that only happen to overweight older men? Apparently not. To improve, I had to learn to take care of my gut health. I had to stop eating dinner so late. I needed at least three hours between my last meal and when I would go "horizontal" for sleep. I learned that digestion starts "in the mouth," so I had to slow down how quickly I ate. Today's podcast features guest Dane Johnson, who faced life-threatening digestive issues. He struggled with severe Crohn's disease and colitis, leading to months of hospitalization. Now, he has learned how to heal and shares his tips for rebuilding gut health in this episode. • Are Nice People More Likely to Get Cancer?
    2026/07/23
We often see cancer as a purely physical issue, but within holistic healing, today’s guest believes that the healing is deeply spiritual. I’m thrilled about today's podcast episode featuring the remarkable Dr. Katie Deming. As an oncologist, former healthcare leader, inventor, author, and podcast host, Dr. Deming has a wealth of knowledge to offer. • Does Happiness Kill Cancer Cells?
    2026/07/09
This is a very special episode. Why? Because a good friend of mine asked me to pick my favorite podcast to pass along to his friend, who is battling cancer. I’ve recorded hundreds of episodes. Do you know how hard it is to pick one? I spent hours reviewing my episodes and found the one recording I felt would be most impactful for this friend. It was an interview I recorded in my second year of podcasting with Dr. Kelly A. Turner, author of Radical Remission. You’re probably asking yourself, why this episode? I chose it for one reason. It’s a simple message: happiness can help kill cancer cells. Dr. Turner explained how positive emotions can affect your pituitary and pineal glands, flooding your bloodstream with oxytocin, relaxin, serotonin, and endorphins. She calls these “happy hormones,” and they will KILL CANCER CELLS. Translation: These hormones have been studied for their potential to reduce the spread and growth rate of cancer cells. This is not a hype up conversation; this data is based on numerous scientific studies. One of my big takeaways is that being happy for five minutes may be enough to get this process going! Please pass this episode along to anyone who needs encouragement today. ______ Tru Niagen After my conversation with Dr. Sandra Kaufmann about NAD and longevity, I decided to try one of her recommendations, Tru Niagen. I've been taking it for about a month, and the biggest changes I've noticed are less afternoon fatigue and better sleep. Of course, this is just my personal experience, but it's been an interesting part of my wellness routine. If you're curious about NAD, NR, and the science behind healthy aging, I highly recommend listening to my conversation with Dr. Kaufmann. She does a fantastic job explaining how NAD supports healthy aging and why timing can make a difference. Because of your support, Why Did I Get Cancer? is now ranked in the top 5% of more than 4 million podcasts. If you've found value in the show, I'd be so grateful if you could leave a review. • Did My Dr. Drop The Ball?
    2026/06/25
I felt anxious after recording an episode today. My guest had the same cancer I had, and her oncologist has checked her twice a year for almost twenty years! That made me wonder why my oncologist no longer checks on me. She said I only needed five years of surveillance. Did My Doctor Drop The Ball on My Care? Or was this just my scan anxiety talking? I pushed the pause button on my anxiety and realized I was having the oh-so-common scan anxiety. Cancer scan anxiety is the stress, fear, or worry people may feel before, during, or while waiting for results from a cancer scan. In my case, the anxiety kicked in because I stopped getting the twice-a-year check, not because something new had happened. Even after treatment ends or previous scans have been reassuring, it is common to feel nervous before appointments. Many people report racing thoughts, trouble sleeping, irritability, or feeling distracted while waiting for answers. These feelings are a normal response to uncertainty and do not mean someone is weak or not coping well. Waiting is often the hardest part of scan anxiety. It can feel like life is on pause until the results arrive. During this time, I find that staying busy helps reduce stress. I work to maintain my normal routine, starting my day with prayer and gratitude and staying off of Dr. Google. Today’s guest, Cindy Janecka, is a counselor, a twenty-year breast cancer survivor, and author of the book, This Can’t Be Happening. I met Cindy at a dinner event, and we immediately realized how much we had in common! Today’s episode is encouraging for anyone who has ever heard those words, “You have cancer.” ______ Kirkland Signature Sea Salt Popcorn I'm always looking for snacks that are simple, satisfying, and made with clean ingredients. One of my latest Costco favorites is the Kirkland Signature Sea Salt Popcorn. I love that it's made with just three ingredients: non-GMO corn, coconut oil, and sea salt. The individual snack-size bags are also a big win. They're 90 calories, have zero sugar, and include 2 grams of fiber, making them perfect when I'm craving something crunchy without overdoing it. If you're shopping at Costco and want a delicious snack with simple ingredients, this one is definitely worth picking up.
