  • Increasing Falls
    2025/05/16

I almost didn't record this episode, because it all feels so raw still. But the more conversations I have with families navigating advancing dementias the more I hear how much increasing falls impacts their ability to provide safe care. In this episode, I recount our journey with my mum's falls and how we tried to best handle this incredibly distressing time. Oh, and a slight language warning... I swear once.

    2025/04/04

It's often said that animals feel what we're going through right? So what value does caring for a pet bring our loved one living with Dementia? In this episode, I re-visit how pets impacted my mother's Dementia journey, and then consequently our journey as Carers.

  • Care-giving and Care-taking
    2025/03/12

For most of my Carer journey, I espoused the many positives being a Carer instilled in me. What I found way harder, was being open about the many things it took from me as well. I felt a deep shame (and a weighty guilt) accepting help or admitting this, and in this podcast I open this conversation with you.

  • The Quiet Beginning
    2025/02/13

Hi there, I'm Jason van Genderen, and I co-cared for my mum Hendrika (Oma) with mixed dementias. Let's start at Day 1... the awkward steps of fumbling towards a diagnosis. In this episode, I talk about the first signs we knew something was different with my mother, and the realisation that my role (as her son) would soon need to grow to be a whole lot more.
