  • Incredible Hulk (1986): Byrne, She-Hulk, and the Brutal Banner Split That Shook Marvel
    2025/08/03
In February 1986, Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk hit the shelves as the number one album was Sade’s *Promise*, and shoulder pads were all the rage. This issue follows the intense aftermath of Hulk’s rampage through New Mexico, after being physically separated from Bruce Banner. With Bruce in a coma, Betty Ross and She-Hulk face a life-or-death decision on whether an experimental procedure can save him. Meanwhile, Avengers powerhouses Iron Man, Namor, Wonder Man, and Hercules are left to handle the Hulk. Written and drawn by John Byrne, this is one of his few works on Hulk before he exited the title due to creative differences with Jim Shooter. Featuring iconic art from Byrne and inker Keith Williams, this issue also boasts contributions from comic legends like Andrew Yanchus, Rick Parker, and editors Dennis O’Neil and Don Daley. A Hulk/She-Hulk crossover, deep comic lore, and a rampaging green giant? 1986 was a pivotal year in comics, and this issue shows why! 2025/08/03
In this video, we take a deep dive into Green Lantern 16 from DC Comics, released in September 1991. This issue continues the story of the Mosaic World, where different alien civilizations are forced to coexist on Oa. John Stewart, the custodian of this chaotic patchwork, must take extreme measures as tensions rise among the civilizations. Written by Gerard Jones and illustrated by Mark Bright, with inks by Romeo Tanghal, this issue is part of a larger arc that concludes in *Green Lantern 17*. We explore the creative team behind the issue, including notable contributors like editor Andrew Helfer and assistant editor Kevin Dooley, who later oversaw the Emerald Twilight storyline. We also delve into the Xudarian Green Lanterns and the fate of Mosaic World, a plotline that was eventually spun off into its own series, *Green Lantern: Mosaic*.In addition to the story and artwork, we look at the cultural context of early 90s comics, the growing comic book market bubble, and some fun retro advertisements, including a Steven Seagal fan club and vintage video game promotions.#GreenLantern #DCComics #MosaicWorld #JohnStewart #MarkBright #RomeoTanghal #1991Comics #ComicBookHistory #GreenLanternMosaic #DCUniverse #RetroComics #90sComics #EmeraldTwilight #ComicCollecting #StevenSeagal #XudariansPhotos & Thankshttps://leagueofcomicgeeks.com/people...https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1439561/m...https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Romeo_Tanghalhttps://batman.fandom.com/wiki/Andrew...By Michael Pate - cropped from: Originally posted to Flickr as Dick Giordano and Pat Bastienne, CC BY-SA 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index...By The cover art can be obtained from A&M Records., Fair use, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?...By American Broadcasting Company - https://www.emmys.com/photos/146406, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index...https://www.newsfromme.com/2004/12/01...By MichaelNetzer - Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index...By [1], Fair use, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?...By [1], Fair use, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?...By https://chrisandreggie.podbean.com/e/..., Fair use, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?...By https://rbruning.myportfolio.com/logos, Fair use, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?...By Scan made by the original uploader User:Calabraxthis., Fair use, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?...DC ComicsYouTubeMarvelComicsGuideEbay

  • Uncanny X-Men #329: Psylocke’s Fate, Crimson Dawn, and Joe Mad’s ’90s Marvel Magic
    2025/08/03
In June 1996, Uncanny X-Men #329 was released, continuing the intense story of Psylocke’s near-fatal battle with Sabretooth. Wolverine and Archangel seek healing for her in New York’s “Little Asia,” where they encounter Gomurr the Ancient, an old ally of Wolverine. The trio, joined by Doctor Strange’s astral form, set out to obtain the mystical Crimson Dawn to save Psylocke. The comic, written by Scott Lobdell and Jeph Loeb, features Joe Madureira’s dynamic manga-inspired artwork, capturing the action and emotion of the story. This issue also introduces key characters like Gomurr and Tar. While Wolverine faces new challenges, the X-Men struggle through the fallout of earlier events, including Wolverine’s lack of an adamantium skeleton. Despite Marvel’s internal financial struggles in the mid-90s, this comic is a testament to the company’s creativity and resilience during a turbulent time. • Spider-Man vs. Mind Control! ASM #170, Doctor Faustus, and 1977 Comic Nostalgia
    2025/08/03
Released in July 1977, The Amazing Spider-Man #170 hit the shelves as Star Wars dominated theaters and Rumors by Fleetwood Mac topped the charts. In this issue, Spider-Man faces Doctor Faustus, a villain who uses mind-controlling gas in a plot involving a tampered vaccine. Spider-Man falls under Faustus' spell but recovers in time to stop his scheme. The story also features a key subplot with the burglar who killed Uncle Ben, which ties into future issues, especially The Amazing Spider-Man #200.Written by Len Wein, known for co-creating Wolverine, the story captures Spidey's evolution from a nerdy outcast to a more confident hero. However, Peter Parker doesn’t appear out of costume, keeping the focus on Spider-Man.Ross Andru’s artwork, inked by Mike Esposito and Frank Giacoia, showcases dynamic action scenes, though some panels scale Spidey oddly small compared to Faustus’ henchmen. Still, Andru’s cityscapes are iconic. The comic also features classic 1970s ads, including muscle-building courses and Hostess snack cakes with Iron Man. It’s a fun time capsule of the era, even if the story isn’t the most compelling.Like, subscribe, and comment if you enjoyed this breakdown—and remember, support real artists!Sources:Marvel ComicsDC ComicsWikipediaGoogle MapsPhotos:The queue outside the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver for the first screening of Star Wars on June 24, 1977.
