  • Incredible Hulk (1986): Byrne, She-Hulk, and the Brutal Banner Split That Shook Marvel
    2025/08/03
In February 1986, Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk hit the shelves as the number one album was Sade’s *Promise*, and shoulder pads were all the rage. This issue follows the intense aftermath of Hulk’s rampage through New Mexico, after being physically separated from Bruce Banner. With Bruce in a coma, Betty Ross and She-Hulk face a life-or-death decision on whether an experimental procedure can save him. Meanwhile, Avengers powerhouses Iron Man, Namor, Wonder Man, and Hercules are left to handle the Hulk. Written and drawn by John Byrne, this is one of his few works on Hulk before he exited the title due to creative differences with Jim Shooter. Featuring iconic art from Byrne and inker Keith Williams, this issue also boasts contributions from comic legends like Andrew Yanchus, Rick Parker, and editors Dennis O’Neil and Don Daley. A Hulk/She-Hulk crossover, deep comic lore, and a rampaging green giant? 1986 was a pivotal year in comics, and this issue shows why!
