  • Core Value - Sustainability
    2026/08/25

Grab your journal and drop into a moment of reflection and self-discovery. In Season 2 of Present Moments, we're using the 'What Really Matters' deck of cards created by MetaFox to explore a variety of core values. Each episode is a 5-7 minute guided process that reviews the card and it's meaning, before mindfully evaluating what the value means to you and how it is represented. You'll also be given examples of how you can create opportunities to embrace the value in your daily practices and routine.

What comes to mind when you hear the word sustainability? There's much talk in mainstream media about green energy, carbon neutrality, environmental protection and more. This episode unpacks the definition and then we explore ways in which you can bring greater awareness to this value.

  • Mindfulness - Stretching for Cognitive Performance
    2026/08/22

This episode is great for a mid-day break from the computer. If you've been sitting for long periods of time, you'll likely notice a dip in energy - particularly in the afternoon. One of the best ways to support mental stamina is to get your body up and moving. No workout equipment necessary. As you elevate your heart rate, cognition improves because the blood and oxygen are circulating more freely and the brain benefits from the influx. 5 minutes later, you get a second wind and can concentrate on the task at hand.

  • Core Value - Variety

Variety is the core value we will explore today. I find that many people agree with the saying, "variety is the spice of life", however most prefer the comfort of the predictable. Routine and norms are relatively safe - we know what to expect - but variety introduces unknowns and possible change. Variety offers a path toward self-discovery (likes, dislikes, ambiguity, etc.) and might be perceived as a little disruptive. On the opposite end of the spectrum, too much variety can be overwhelming and create chaos. Let's unpack this value and see how you feel about the spice of life.

  • Affirmations & Intentions
    2026/08/16

In Season 3 of Present Moments, we use a variety of oracle card decks as prompts for self-discovery. Each episode takes an affirmation, intention and/or message from the card to assist with exploration and evaluation. Oracle cards have been used to reveal blind spots and/or to bring awareness to thoughts, experiences, relationships, and behaviors that may or may not serve us. Additionally, they can be a powerful tool to remind us of what is truly important and activating energetic motion in the direction that supports our divine purpose.

This episode is all about the 'why' behind using oracle cards, setting intentions and holding an affirmation in your heart. I use these cards as a process for slowing down and tapping into my feelings about the message and image. It gives me a small pause in the day to evaluate how I feel about a concept I may or may not have otherwise explored. Using oracle cards, affirmations and intentions offers a direction and a focus for my energy beyond my daily tasks and familiar routine. It's a brief moment to reflect and come into the present moment as the card is held in my hand. They are an excellent tool for anyone beginning a mindfulness practice that needs a bit of structure without it becoming too prescriptive.

  • Bite-sized Yoga Philosophy - Yamas (Part 2)
    2026/08/14

Season 4 of Present Moments uses excerpts from the book, The Eight Limbs of Yoga: A Handbook for Living Yoga Philosophy, by Stuart Ray Sarbacker and Kevin Kimple to dissect yoga beyond the mat. In each episode, I read a short selection from the book and offer an interpretation followed by some practical ways in which you can incorporate the concept in your daily life. Yoga is a spiritual practice that offers a framework for people who have the desire to walk the path of enlightenment.

In this episode we continue demystifying the Yamas and provide more in-depth review of the five restraints. Each Yama offers a framework in which to operate - a foundation or core value that will support your path toward spiritual enlightenment. When the yamas are observed, there is no conflict between the soul and the physical existence of Self. Although the yamas can be considered 'rules', I prefer to think of them as guidelines. Part of the human experience is to recognize when, where and why we might not be living the 5 yamas, but there is no punishment per se if you are out of tune with them. Instead, it's an awareness and recognition that as long as you are conflicted and struggling in any of these five areas, it will be difficult to find and discover lasting peace.

Ha Ha Ha! Today we are evaluating how humor shows up in our life and whether or not humor is a core value. Personally I love a good practical joke, so please feel free to comment and give me some fresh ideas. Humor is great for diffusing intense emotions or challenging conversations. It's great for burning calories if you are laughing at something humorous. However, it can also be annoying if you are trying to have a serious discussion and the other individual is disarming through humor. What do you find funny? How do you use humor and when? Are you more humorous around certain people? Let's dive in and discover your relationship with humor as a core value.
