  • Eating Disorders, Body Image, and Power of Therapy ft. Ashley Arter | Journey With Jess Season 2 Finale
    2023/10/17

Thank you so much for tuning into season 2 of Journey With Jess! In this final episode of the season I sit down with Ashley Arter. While not a mental professional, Ashley has an immense amount of knowledge regarding mental health and in particular, eating disorders. Having dealt with anxiety, depression, PTSD, undiagnosed ADHD, as well as disordered eating, Ashley has come on to share important insights with me and with all of you.

Some of the topics we dive into are:

    • Beauty standards and their effects on our perception of ourselves
    • The different types of eating disorders
    • Her personal eating disorder journey
    • Eating disorders as a means of control
    • The obsession with “healthy”
    • Why getting an official diagnosis can be a battle
    • And why checking in with yourself is so important

This interview is extremely honest, raw, and I think, helpful to anyone who has or still is struggling with body image, confidence, or an eating disorder.

  • The American Dream, Creating Traditions, and Healing Through Mothering with Jeni | Journey With Jess
    2023/10/03

Hi! Welcome to another episode of Journey With Jess. This week I'm chatting with my sorority sister, Jeniadys Lyn-Shue aka Jeni.

This was one of the best podcast episodes I've ever done, if I may say so myself. We covered a ton of different topics, including body image, the history of the quinceañera, wedding expenses, creating your own traditions, and healing through mothering.

What is the American Dream, what does this concept mean to us, and do we both think that we achieved it? Keep listening/watching to find out!

  • All About Narcism and Narcistic Parents with Psychologist Melissa Lehto | Journey With Jess
    2023/08/29

This week I'm super excited to bring you a long-awaited discussion all about narcism and narcissistic parents with psychologist and mental health coach, Melissa Lehto.

    A little bit about Melissa:

Melissa Lehto was born in El Paso, Texas. She graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, later obtaining her Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at El Paso. She has worked in the mental health field since 2018. Her adult career started in the banking industry and, thanks to a lot of work, support, and dedication I was able to move up fairly quickly. In the end, she wanted a job that was fulfilling and that could align with her personal values and beliefs. So, she took a big leap of faith and decided to restart her career by enrolling in college and exploring different jobs and volunteer opportunities that she wanted to participate in.

Even at times when she felt like she was stepping back "financially, or with stability”, she knew that the rewards would outweigh the challenges and difficulties. She found her specialty which is helping adult clients with processing and healing from trauma, toxic relationships, and dysfunctional family systems. She works with clients who have been involved in narcissistic relationships either with their families, parents, or significant others. She values the strength that it takes for them to ask for help. With that same sentiment, there is not a day when she takes for granted the ability to provide the best quality of care to her clients. Even on the most difficult days, her heart is full and she has an immense sense of gratitude for her profession and the connection she develops with my clients.
