  • I Lost 120 Pounds… Then Made This Difficult Decision About Plastic Surgery
    2026/08/30

After losing 120 pounds, I found myself facing a decision I never expected to make: whether or not to have plastic surgery at 61.

This was not an impulsive decision. I spent months researching the risks, the recovery, the cost, the scars, the surgeon, and what life might look like afterward. I made a pros-and-cons list. I talked with my husband. I asked a lot of questions.

And in some ways, it still felt like a lonely decision—because no matter how much support I had, no one else could make it for me.

In this episode, I’m sharing why I ultimately chose to move forward, why I waited until after surgery to share this publicly, and the reasons the decision became about much more than appearance.

I talk about the concerns that gave me pause, including my age, the length and complexity of the surgery, the cost, the recovery, and permanent scars. I also share the reasons I said yes: wanting to feel comfortable in my own skin, no longer hiding parts of my body, being able to exercise and dress more comfortably, and finally feeling ready to close this chapter after a lifetime of living in a larger body.

I am deeply grateful for my body and my health. For me, gratitude and wanting to change something can exist at the same time.

This episode is not meant to encourage anyone else to have plastic surgery. It is simply my personal story and the thought process behind a very personal decision.

And no, this is not turning into a graphic plastic surgery podcast. 😂 I may share some practical things I learned about preparing for surgery and recovery, but there will be no gory play-by-play here.

At 61, I know I have more years behind me than ahead of me—and I want to truly live the ones in front of me.

  • Before Surgery: Pre-Op Nerves, Trusting My Decision & When Everything Happened at Once
    2026/09/06

After losing 120 pounds, I made the decision to have plastic surgery to address the loose skin left behind. But making the decision was one thing — getting close enough to surgery that it suddenly felt very real was something else entirely.

In this episode, I’m taking you into the weeks leading up to surgery, starting with the nerves I was feeling on the way to my pre-op appointment. I’ll walk you through that two-hour appointment, what happened, what I learned, what made me nervous, and the point where I realized I had to stop second-guessing myself and trust the decision I had made — and the surgeon I had carefully chosen.

And then life got very busy, very quickly.

We came home from vacation, our house unexpectedly went under contract, and suddenly we were looking at communities, considering a condo, and dealing with a completely different kind of whirlwind. For a moment, I wondered whether all of that happening at once was somehow a sign that I shouldn’t go through with surgery.

Eventually, I decided to see it differently.

Maybe everything wasn’t happening to stop me. Maybe everything was finally coming together.

This is another very real chapter in my plastic surgery journey after major weight loss — the nerves, the trust, the uncertainty, and everything life decided to throw into the mix right before surgery.

Next episode: what I bought, gathered, and prepared at home for recovery — because there was far too much to squeeze into this one. 😂

  • What I’d Tell Anyone Over 50 About GLP-1s
    2026/08/09

Prescription weight-loss medications can change far more than hunger or the number on the scale. For anyone over 50, starting a GLP-1 can also bring up questions about shame, cost, strength, changing bodies, maintenance, and whether accepting help means we somehow failed.

In this episode, Karen shares what she would tell anyone over 50 before beginning a GLP-1 journey. She discusses choosing the right medical provider, avoiding the race toward the highest dose or fastest loss, prioritizing protein and strength, preparing for emotional changes, and thinking about long-term access and maintenance.

Karen also addresses a subject people often whisper about: the guilt of paying for a GLP-1 when insurance will not cover it. No one should create a financial hardship to afford medication, but we are allowed to decide that our own health deserves a place in the budget.

This episode shares Karen’s personal experience and is not medical advice. Speak with a qualified healthcare professional about whether a GLP-1 medication is appropriate for you.

  • Life After Losing 120 Pounds: The Overwhelm of More Choices
    2026/08/02

After losing 120 pounds, I expected to feel more freedom. What I did not expect was how overwhelming it could feel to suddenly have so many more choices.

In this episode, I’m answering a viewer’s question: Do I love having more options now that I am thinner — clothes, activities, travel — or does it feel overwhelming?

    My honest answer is both.

I’m talking about the emotional side of major weight loss, including shopping for a changing body, learning what clothes feel like “me,” saying yes to activities I might have avoided before, traveling with more confidence, and realizing that my brain is still catching up with my body.

This is not about being ungrateful. I am deeply thankful for the freedom and choices I have now. But I also think it is important to talk honestly about the adjustment period that can come after major weight loss, especially for women over 50 who may be entering an entirely new season of life.

If you are on a weight loss journey, using GLP-1 medications, losing weight after 50, or adjusting to life after major weight loss, I hope this episode helps you feel less alone.

  • The Vacation Freedom I Found After Losing 120 Pounds
    2026/07/26

During my recent Maui vacation, a photo appeared on my phone from eight years ago. I was sitting in the same restaurant I had visited just days earlier—but I realized I was experiencing the vacation in a completely different way.

In this episode, I’m talking about the less obvious ways losing 120 pounds with the help of a GLP-1 medication has changed travel for me.

I pack differently. I no longer research every activity to determine whether there is a weight limit or whether I will fit. I can choose clothing for a sunset cruise without worrying that getting wet will leave me feeling exposed and uncomfortable. I can sit in an airline middle seat without feeling as though my body is inconveniencing everyone around me.

And perhaps most importantly, I can enjoy special food without believing I have failed.

Eight years ago, I watched my husband and daughter enjoy a Hula Pie because I was afraid that one indulgence would result in weight I might spend months trying to lose. This time, I shared the pie with my daughter—and it was every bit as delicious as I remembered.

I came home three pounds heavier, but I also came home without guilt. By the next afternoon, I had stocked my refrigerator and returned to the habits that make me feel good—not as punishment, but because this is simply how I live now.

This episode is about vacation, but it is also about freedom: freedom from constant calculations, fear and the belief that enjoying life will undo everything you have worked for.

Disclaimer: This episode reflects my personal experience and is not medical advice. Prescription medications, including GLP-1 medications, should be discussed with a qualified healthcare provider.

  • Things I Don’t Accept Anymore at 61
    2026/07/19

At 61, I’ve realized there are some things I just don’t accept anymore.

Not because I’m angry or bitter, but because I finally understand how important it is to protect my peace, my health, my time, and my joy.

In this episode, I’m talking about the things I’ve stopped tolerating in this season of life, including rude behavior, mean girl energy, cliques, one-sided relationships, guilt around spending money on my health, the pressure to always be busy, and postponing travel or happiness for “someday.”

I also share how losing 120 pounds, rebuilding my health, and stepping into a new chapter of life have changed the way I think about boundaries, friendships, self-care, and gratitude.

If you’re a woman over 50 or 60 who is learning to choose peace, stop people-pleasing, and enjoy your life more fully, I hope this episode feels like a conversation with a friend.
