  • Sin: A Condition, Not a Checklist
    2026/09/03

You know that thing where you're quietly ranking your own sins? Like there's a bad pile and a forgivable pile, and you're just trying to figure out which one you're standing in?

    Yeah. This episode's about that.

We're taking the word "sin" back to something simpler, and honestly, harder to hide from. It isn't a category of bad things you did. It's anything that puts distance between you and God.

Which means it's not really about tiers. We're not ranking your stuff against someone else's stuff. Everybody's standing in the same need for grace......that part doesn't move. What does move is the damage. Some choices wreck more than others. We're not pretending otherwise, and we're not interested in flattening that out just to make a tidy point.

If you've spent years keeping your own scorecard. Trying to figure out if you're a "bad sin" person or a "forgivable sin" person.....this one's for you. We're not resolving everything. But we are trying to get you out from under the math.

  • Follow A Person, Not A Platform
    2026/08/20

Somewhere along the way, a lot of us picked up a checklist. Vote this way. Never say that word. Don't have too much money. Sit in the right pew with the right people who believe the right things. And if you didn't check every box, the message - spoken or not - was that you weren't really following Jesus.

But that's not what He asked for.

Jesus called Peter and Paul to the exact same thing, and they didn't end up looking anything alike. One's eating with people he was never supposed to eat with. The other's still working the temple crowd back home. They argue about it — to each other's face. Same Jesus. Completely different obedience.

This week, we're talking about why "follow me" was never the same thing as "be like everyone else in this room." What happens when the standard isn't a list - it's a person. And why that might actually be harder than the checklist ever was.

  • Bad Things Happen. Here's What God Promised
    2026/08/06

Somebody you love gets sick. A marriage falls apart. A kid dies too young. And somewhere in the middle of it, the question shows up whether you invited it or not. Where is God right now?

This episode isn't going to answer that question. Not the way you want it answered, anyway. Instead, Jim and Larry sit inside it. They walk through Job. Not the Sunday school version, the real one, where God doesn't explain himself and Job doesn't get a reason. They talk about what gets promised in scripture and what doesn't. Because here's the thing nobody tells you: God never actually promised comfort. He promised Joy and He promised Peace. Those are not the same thing, and confusing them will wreck your faith the first time life gets hard.

No tidy bow on this one. Just an honest look at the hardest question people ask, and what it might mean to keep believing anyway.

  • Turns Out, There's a Free Lunch
    2026/07/23

We grew up believing love gets earned. Grades, chores, being good enough. So when someone tells you this one's free - no strings, no ledger, no catching up required - your gut reaction probably isn't relief. It's suspicion.

This week, Jim and Larry sit with the idea that gets said in church more than it actually gets believed: grace alone. Not grace plus effort. Not a reward for behaving. Just grace.

We also don't dodge the obvious pushback: if it's really free, doesn't that just mean you can do whatever you want? We answer that one honestly, not tidily.

And we land somewhere we think is worth sitting with; grace isn't a hack. It's not a technique. It's merely a different foundation to slip and fall on. One that doesn't require you to make it right up before you're welcomed back.

  • Faith & Finances: Handle With Care!
    2026/07/09

Nobody wants to be told having money is dangerous. Especially the people who worked hard for theirs. But Jesus keeps bringing it up, again and again, and it's worth asking why. This one's not about whether you have money. It's about what money tends to do to you when you're not paying attention. Handle with care.

  • Prayer - Does it Actually Work?
    2026/06/25

Jim opens by sharing a prayer he's been praying for years — and hasn't been answered yet. No resolution, no tidy lesson. Just honesty. From there, he and Larry dig into the questions most people are afraid to ask out loud. Does prayer actually work and if so, how do you measure it? Is it ok to be angry with God? And what does it even look like when it's real, not performed, not rehearsed, just a person talking to God like they mean it. This episode isn't about getting prayer right. It's about showing up and starting the conversation.

  • The Bible Episode - Where Do You Even Start?!
    2026/06/11

If you've ever picked up a Bible and immediately felt lost you're not alone. In this episode, Jim and Larry break down the basics: what the Old Testament and New Testament actually are, why both matter, and where Jesus fits in. They talk through why there are different versions (yes, there are a lot), which one might actually be readable for a normal person, and why starting in the New Testament, specifically the Gospel of John, might be the best first move you make. They both share a Bible story they are fond of what they've recently learned about Jesus from the Bible.

Just a starting point for anyone who's curious.

PS. Jim shares a "God moment" in the intro so be sure to check it out!

  • So You Want to Know Jesus
    2026/05/28

From empathy and trust to Jesus. That's what we're talking about this week. Truth be told, Jim is flying solo and he say's "never again"! While Larry is tending to some business in Oregon and then moving the family to Ohio, Jim steps in to keep the cadence going. That being said, the guys are excited to get back together and move towards talking about Jesus. This week we'll set up what it means to have a "relationship with Jesus" (is that weird??), and how exactly does one do that? It's getting sooooo good!
