In questa puntata speciale di Crossroads – Crocevia della comunità celebriamo i 40 anni del Visitation Program del CO.AS.IT., registrata dal vivo alla Casa d’Abruzzo di Epping.

Il Visitation Program, nato nel 1984 sotto la guida di Sir James Gobbo, è partito da un semplice concetto: offrire visite amichevoli uno-a-uno a persone anziane italiane isolate. Un concetto che ha fatto nascere un programma che poi è cresciuto fino a diventare uno dei servizi fondamentali di compagnia e socializzazione nella comunità italo-australiana.

In questo episodio ascolterete gli interventi di Filomena Adem (Manager Visitation Program), Emma Contessa (Manager Dipartimento Aged Care di CO.AS.IT.), Marco Fedi (CEO CO.AS.IT.), Vincent Volpe (Presidente CO.AS.IT.), e un’intervista esclusiva con Sister Anne, membro del primissimo team del programma 40 anni fa. Episode 11 – By Your Side for 40 Years: The Visitation Program

In this special episode of Crossroads – The Community’s Crossroads, we celebrate the 40th anniversary of CO.AS.IT.’s Visitation Program, recorded live at the Casa d’Abruzzo in Epping.

The Visitation Program, launched in 1984 under the leadership of Sir James Gobbo, began with a simple idea: to offer one-on-one friendly visits to socially isolated Italian seniors. That simple idea grew into one of the most important companionship and social support services within the Italian-Australian community.

In this episode, you’ll hear from Filomena Adem (Visitation Program Manager), Emma Contessa (Manager, Aged Care Department – CO.AS.IT.), Marco Fedi (CO.AS.IT. CEO), Vincent Volpe (CO.AS.IT. President), and an exclusive interview with Sister Anne, who was part of the program’s very first team 40 years ago.

The event was hosted by Davide Viggiano.

An episode that bridges past and present, combining emotion and dedication, to tell the story of a program that has made a difference in the lives of Italian seniors in Australia for the past four decades.

EP 10 – Aged Care Reform: facciamo chiarezza!

Nel 2021, la Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety ha messo in evidenza la situazione dell’assistenza agli anziani in tutta l’Australia, sottolineando le principali criticità del sistema dell’Aged Care e dei suoi metodi di governance. È emerso chiaramente che una riforma del settore era assolutamente necessaria.

Oggi, con la riforma ormai alle porte, negli studi di Crossroads, sotto la conduzione di Luca Esposito, non potevamo che avere come ospiti la direttrice del Dipartimento Aged Care del CO.AS.IT., Emma Contessa, e Deborah Caprioli, manager del Quality Care and Clinical Governance.

EP 10 – Aged Care Reform: Let’s Make Things Clear!

In 2021, the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety shed light on the state of aged care across Australia, highlighting major issues within the system and its governance. The findings made it evident that a comprehensive reform of the sector was urgently needed.

Now, with the reform just around the corner, Crossroads—hosted by Luca Esposito—welcomes two special guests: Emma Contessa, Director of the Aged Care Department at CO.AS.IT., and Deborah Caprioli, Manager of Quality Care and Clinical Governance.

Together, they will clarify the upcoming changes within the sector and explain how this reform will affect clients—without compromising the quality and dedication that CO.AS.IT. staff continue to provide to aged care service users.

Episodio 9 - La Festa Italiana, cuore pulsante di Melbourne

Si chiude un’altra edizione di uno degli eventi più amati di Melbourne: la Melbourne Italian Festa, che ha accolto oltre 130.000 partecipanti al Royal Exhibition Building di Carlton.

Oltre ai sapori della tradizione, la Festa ha offerto un eccezionale palcoscenico per la cultura italiana, con musica dal vivo, una DJ station, un jazz club, mostre d’arte e design e attività per bambini. Un evento per tutte le età, ma soprattutto per i più giovani: il 42% dei partecipanti aveva tra i 25 e i 34 anni, e il 28% tra i 35 e i 44.

Un vero incontro di generazioni e culture: oltre al pubblico italiano e australiano (35%), erano presenti anche persone con origini europee (28%) e asiatiche (7%), confermando la Festa come simbolo di inclusività e coesione sociale.

Episode 9 – The Italian Festa: Melbourne’s Beating Heart

Another edition of one of Melbourne’s most beloved events has come to a close: the Melbourne Italian Festa, which welcomed over 130,000 visitors to the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton.

Beyond the traditional flavours of Italy, this year’s Festa offered a vibrant showcase of Italian culture — with live music, a DJ station, an exclusive jazz club, art and design exhibitions, and children’s activities. It was an event for all ages, but particularly for the younger crowd: 42% of attendees were aged 25–34, and 28% were 35–44.

It was a true meeting of generations and cultures. Alongside the Italian and Australian audience (35%), there was a strong presence of people with European (28%) and Asian (7%) backgrounds — confirming the Festa as a key event promoting inclusivity and social cohesion.

In this special episode of Crossroads, we bring you highlights from the speeches of key public figures who took the stage at the Festa:

Episodio 8 - Torna la Melbourne Italian Festa, noi ci siamo!

Siamo agli sgoccioli: dopo le circa 150mila partecipazioni - numeri quasi astronomici oramai - dell'edizione scorsa, la Melbourne Italian Festa 2025 (MIF) arriva per una due giorni all'insegna dell'italianità e dei valori comunitari che ci contraddistinguono.

Un festival fatto dagli italiani, ma per tutti!

... Ma proprio tutti!

A condurre questa ottava puntata, Luca Esposito che stavolta ha avuto il piacere di ospitare colei che lavora dietro le quinte del MIF dal 2023 e che è una delle principali fautrici della riuscita delle edizioni passate della Festa, ma anche della sua espansione: la marketing & branding specialist del CO.AS.IT., Elaine Bocchini.

Episode 8 – The Melbourne Italian Festa is back, and we’ll be there!

We’re counting down the days! After last year’s incredible success — with nearly 150,000 attendees — the Melbourne Italian Festa 2025 is returning for a two-day celebration of Italian culture and the community spirit that defines us.

A festival made by Italians — but for everyone!

… And we really mean everyone!

In this eighth episode, Luca Esposito hosts Elaine Bocchini, CO.AS.IT.’s Marketing & Branding Specialist, one of the key people behind the scenes since 2023 and one of the main driving forces behind the Festa’s growing success and expansion.

There’s so much to look forward to on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 October at the Royal Exhibition Building & Museum Plaza in Carlton — and we’ve talked about it all in this episode: from kids’ sports areas to the Italian Jazz Club, from food and wine experiences to the much-loved return of the Zecchino d’Oro.

Episodio 6 - Il CO.AS.IT. atterra a Roma: 30 anni di successi nell'insegnamento della lingua

Un episodio unico, frutto di un coordinamento perfetto tra gli studi di Carlton del CO.AS.IT. e la Biblioteca della Camera dei Deputati di Palazzo San Macuto, a due passi dal Pantheon, nel cuore della Città Eterna.

Luca Esposito da Melbourne e Stefano Ioele da Roma vi porteranno all’interno delle celebrazioni per i 30 anni dell’assistentato linguistico del CO.AS.IT. di Melbourne, tenutesi proprio a Palazzo San Macuto, nella splendida cornice della Sala del Refettorio.

Qui il CEO Marco Fedi, insieme ai manager e coordinatori del dipartimento Language — Ferdinando Colarossi, Michela Pellizon e Maria Cagiati — ha ripercorso la storia di un programma nato nel 1995 e capace, negli anni, di cambiare la vita di centinaia di assistenti linguistici, offrendo loro un’esperienza formativa e umana senza eguali.

Un incontro dall’atmosfera festosa, arricchito dagli interventi di importanti figure istituzionali, tra cui il deputato della Circoscrizione Estero Fabio Porta, il senatore Francesco Giacobbe, il presidente del Museo Nazionale dell’Emigrazione Italiana (MEI) Paolo Masini, e la Console Generale d’Italia a Melbourne Chiara Mauri, presente con un videomessaggio.

La Sala del Refettorio era gremita anche da molti ex assistenti linguistici che, attraverso le università italiane aderenti al programma, hanno potuto vivere quest’esperienza nel Victoria negli anni passati.

Abbiamo raccolto le loro testimonianze, che raccontano di come questa opportunità abbia davvero aperto le porte del mondo.

Episode 6 - CO.AS.IT. lands in Rome: 30 Years of Success in Language Education

A unique episode, the result of perfect coordination between the CO.AS.IT. studios in Carlton and the Library of the Chamber of Deputies at Palazzo San Macuto, just a few steps from the Pantheon, in the heart of the Eternal City.

Luca Esposito from Melbourne and Stefano Ioele from Rome will take you inside the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of the CO.AS.IT. Language Assistant Program in Melbourne, held at Palazzo San Macuto, within the beautiful setting of the Sala del Refettorio.

Here, CEO Marco Fedi, together with the Language Department managers and coordinators — Ferdinando Colarossi, Michela Pellizon, and Maria Cagiati — retraced the story of a program born in 1995, which over the years has transformed the lives of hundreds of language assistants, offering them a unique personal and professional experience.

It was a festive gathering, enriched by speeches from important institutional figures, including Fabio Porta, Member of Parliament for the Overseas Constituency, Senator Francesco Giacobbe, Paolo Masini, President of the National Museum of Italian Emigration (MEI), and Chiara Mauri, Consul General of Italy in Melbourne, who joined with a video message.

The Sala del Refettorio was also filled with many former language assistants who, through the Italian universities participating in the program, had the chance to live this extraordinary experience in Victoria over the years.

We also collected their stories, confirming how this opportunity truly opened the doors of the world for them.

Episodio 6: La lingua italiana, il vero ponte tra le generazioni

Non tutti sanno che l’Australia è tra i paesi al mondo in cui l’insegnamento dell’italiano è più diffuso, seconda solo all’Italia stessa per numero di studenti!

Lo stato del Victoria guida le statistiche: oltre il 50% degli studenti sceglie di studiare la lingua tricolore. Un fenomeno dovuto a molti fattori, ma soprattutto alla forte presenza della comunità italiana, radicata sin dalle prime ondate migratorie del secolo scorso e sempre più apprezzata per il suo patrimonio culturale e linguistico.

Quest’anno, inoltre, ricorre un anniversario importante: il programma di assistentato linguistico del CO.AS.IT. compie 30 anni. Un traguardo che testimonia la costanza e l’impegno con cui l’ente ha promosso, sostenuto e reso accessibile lo studio dell’italiano a migliaia di studenti australiani, contribuendo a mantenere vivo il legame con la lingua e la cultura d’origine.

In questa puntata, i conduttori Luca Esposito e Marco Fedi approfondiscono il ruolo centrale del CO.AS.IT., che da trent’anni porta avanti con successo il programma di assistentato linguistico.

Not everyone knows that Australia is one of the countries in the world where the teaching of Italian is most widespread, second only to Italy itself in terms of student numbers!

The state of Victoria leads the statistics: over 50% of students choose to study the Italian language. This phenomenon is due to many factors, but above all to the strong presence of the Italian community, rooted since the first migration waves of the last century and increasingly appreciated for its cultural and linguistic heritage.

This year also marks an important anniversary: the CO.AS.IT. language assistant program turns 30. This milestone highlights the consistency and commitment with which the organization has promoted, supported, and made the study of Italian accessible to thousands of Australian students, helping to keep alive the bond with the language and its cultural roots.

In this episode, hosts Luca Esposito and Marco Fedi explore the central role of CO.AS.IT., which has successfully carried out the language assistant program for three decades.

Joining them in the studio to share initiatives and projects that keep the language vibrant, even thousands of kilometers away from Italy, is Michela Pellizon, manager of the CO.AS.IT. Education Department.
