Can lobsters really teach us about transformational change? Stay with us - we believe they can! To explain - several times in their life, lobsters must cast off their old shell as it get's too small for their growing body and begins to inhibit the lobster’s growth. To survive and flourish - the lobster must discard it's hard, inflexible shell and grow a new one. At these stages of growth, when they shed their shell, lobsters are exposed and vulnerable, as their soft underlying shell goes through the process of hardening, but the process is worth it as they then have a larger shell that accommodates the growth they have just undertaken. Humans may not go through the same physical process but this is a great metaphor for the process of self development, which often begins with a period of discomfort and often requires the shedding of limiting beliefs and behaviours in order to be successful. How do we shed those beliefs? Coaching can offer a great helping hand.
We've been running coaching courses at IHS for over 10 years now and have embedded coaching principles into all our courses as we believe it is such an effective way for creating profound behavioural change and for facilitating learning. It's been a really exciting time in the industry over that time as there has been a been a real coming together in the fields of coaching, the behavioural change sciences and neuroscience which is providing research showing why coaching is so effective but also how we can improve the industry even more. This has led to the development of new and exciting branches of coaching such as transformational coaching, which draws together the best proven techniques, models and methodologies from more traditional coaching methods with new findings from the field of neuroscience. It therefore allows for more profound exploration and the facilitation of growth and change at a profound and long-lasting level.
So in this episode we chat to IHS lecturer and trainer Shane Pearson from Design Your Life Coaching about all things Transformational Coaching and why it is helping bring the coaching industry to the next level. Shane is an award winning coaching specialising in health, wellness and human potential and a key member of the Transformational Coaching team at IHS.
