This is a book that I'm happy I heard it in voice.
I was looking to buy this book, but since it was on audible, I thought to rather hear this book instead of reading. I was right and it was a blast! This is my second book that I heard, but this hearing experience was wonderful. This book is actually read by the author, and that is why I thought that the emotion of each letter was fully expressed. Honestly, I don't think I could've read it how she reads. The understanding is much deeper and clear with all of her intonation and feelings. Also, changing voices for each quote were easy to understand and cool. I would like to listen to this whole book again from the begininng. Definately recommended!

Good for an intro to the Law of Attraction
I am giving this book 4 stars, not because the author was so spectacular, but because I think this book is very important as an intro to the Law of Attraction for people who really don't know much about it. After getting turned on to this stuff, and you want to know more, I recommend looking into Ask and It Is Given by Esther & Jerry Hicks, The Power of Intention by Wayne Dyer, and my favorite, The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire by Deepak Chopra. You will also hear a lot of quotes from other people in The Secret, I suggest looking deeper into their work if one of their quotes is especially meaningful to you.

You're better off with the DVD
I normally prefer the complete, unabridged version of most Audiobooks, for maximum reading pleasure. In "The Secret," however, I found the unabridged audio version contrary to the themes and purpose of the book: There's too much negativity. Interviewed experts rant ad nauseum, with far too many examples of how our negativity affects us.
I watched the abridged DVD several months after discarding the present audiobook. The 90-minute DVD format was both tight and focused. The downside of negativity was appropriately presented, without being "dragged out" at the reader's and the book's emotional expense.
Not Recommended.

Wonderful
Read it..over and over again until it clicks. If you are not ready, put it aside until it calls you. It puts in easy to understand language much of what most religions have taught for ages (without the need for control). Listen carefully. And think back on your own experiences to find that what is being said is true. Even if you don't believe, you'll at the very least begin to think about your thoughts and maybe you'll end up happier. Worth the investment.

perspective
I think it it a great book on audible but its a book that walks a fine line on being great and completely awful...let me explain...well, I believe your opinion of the book it going to be based solely on how literally you believe in the "secret" as described by the book ...meaning...if you take it as "if i think it..it well come "...you will think the book is a joke ..and idiotic..and some reviews i think reflect that...yet on the other hand I say its a great book because on the other side of things(how I take the message) is from the "perspective" that if you believe in something and keep a tunnel vision type focus on achieving it...anything is is possible..i think the book is truly about ones focus...simple as that...some say its like an 'adult fairytale" but isnt that the same as a person's having dream to create something from nothing (or like such goal as creating ones business,etc)...so again...how you take the words of the book will be how you view it...rather as a terrible book or great inspiration.

review of the audio only--not of the content
Plenty of people have written about the content, so I will write aout the actual recorded version.
For whatever the content is worth, I think this makes an excellent audiobook. The reading is clear and enthusiastic. The sections of the book are well broken up and there is a different voice that reads the end of chapter summary, so you know where you are at the end of a section. The use of different voices is exceptionally good - I think it breaks up what might otherwise be a pretty monotonous reading. All of the voices are different and yet still expressive. While the main reader has an Australian accent, she is easy to understand; all of the other readers have American accents.
I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for two things though:
1) the music is awful new age-y stuff. it's not at all necessary and what they picked was just terrible. it's not enough to distract from the reading, but it'll date the audio pretty quickly.
2) there are a couple of sections where the reader (the author) is clearly in love with her own ideas and you can hear the "look how amazing i am!" in her voice. it's kind off-putting in the sense that what she's describing isn't all that remarkable.

Great production of an audio book
Really enjoyed this audio book. The production was wonderful and made it easy to listen to, understand, and enjoy. Instead of someone just reading straight through a book, it was filled with audio clips and interview sections from different people. I assume these were excerpts from the movie, but it was a wonderful audio format that others should emulate. I liked it very much. Oh yea...the message was good too. Full break down into the power of positive thinking. It has made me a more positive thinker.

This is one of those incredible life changing books. In addition, the recording is superb. Once in a while a book has more impact in the audio version and this is a perfect example. I would say a person would be better off listening than reading in this case.

You say potato, I say potahtoe
This book deals with what the author says is the immutable law of attraction that rules the unverse, just as the law of gravity. The premise is that you can get what you want, be it money, fame, love, good health, a parking space, just by asking, believing and waiting.
Good things happen to those people who emit positive (what I call) vibes, and bad to those who emit bad vibes and that everything that happens to us is because of these "vibes" we emit.
I'd have to disagree with the premise of this book. Bad things happen to good people, regardless of their vibes, and sometimes good stuff happens to bad people. I just don't believe that the people who were killed in 9/11 brought it on themselves because they attracted it.
However, I do believe that our thoughts do influence our lives and that if we "believe it, we can achieve it." What the author calls the law of attraction, some people call postive attitude and others call, faith.
So read this book for what it's worth and draw your own conclusion; an interesting read, but not entirely factual or believeable.

Your Guide to Materialistic Obsession
I agree with the content of this book in most ways. I think our minds do in fact create our lives. However, I think it is a waste to focus that power on gaining material possessions, as seems to be the focus of this book. There must be something more useful than stuff (houses, cars, and bikes, as suggested in the book) to manifest in ones life.

This book is great for people who have only experienced good things in their life. It’s great to tell people who have experienced good that they’re doing good but telling people who has experienced bad that it is basically their own fault is not good. Why would anyone want any horrific events to happen in their life?! I do not recommend at all

The only secret that needs sharing is don't waste your money on this book. From the beginning I was shocked and disgusted, that apparently we attract our own heart ache by the fact, it maybe, our worst fear! This is a huge insult my 2 year old son was murdered, did he deserve that? did I or his older brother deserve and actually attract that heart break? No I don't believe we did. For a book that supposes to build you up and give positive focus for me I couldn't get past this disgraceful belief.

Not sure what to make of this....
Has The Secret put you off other books in this genre?
Yes
Any additional comments?
50% of the world will find this book fantastic - 50% will be scratching their heads. I can relate to both camps, the concept here is really "be positive" and focus on key outcomes as this ultimately drives success and behaviour - but the essence of this book is about wishing for success and that process alone will secure that success. I don't like the analogy that links illness such as cancer or a disability as being a result of negative thinking........This must have been written as part of a ceremony to secure tenure in a cult.

If you like simple answer
Positive thinking is one thing but blaming victims for being victims is beyond my resistance. With in the first hour you will read that victims of the genocide, crime, rape, murder, have attracted this evil by there way of thinking. It never mentions how babies and very young children attract this kind of horror.
If you like simple answer and are stupidly materialistic this book is for you. If you want to believe that cancer, Nazis, hunger, and natural disasters are made up by your mind this is your book.
I can not believe that intelligent people are not lining up to denounce this garbage.

Terrible advice and quite offensive
The author claims that the victims of Nazi Germany PUT themselves in that situation due to their negative thoughts and thinking.
The author claims that patients with cancer and other critical illness's have brought on their disease with their thoughts and can heal themselves with thought alone.
The rest of the book is in my opinion just a spin on the 'positive thinking' sales pitch popular in life coaching through the 1990's and a protracted advert for the authors movie on DVD and related products.
A fool any his money is so easily parted...
I requested a refund of my Audible credit

Discusting
These people have taken something that should be a good positive message and obscured it into something very horrible. Its disrespectful to people lives and hardships in a way that I imagine is to be controversial so people would talk about it which results in sales. They actually blame people who died in car crashes for having negative thoughts resulting in someone crashing into them. people who have died in atrocities did so because of the negative brain waves they sent into the universe. how damaginging this concept could be to people in hardship weather it be abuse or lose of loved ones. the creators of this book should be shot. I'll probably get shot now that I thought this message. Absolute low lifes benefitting at the expense of other people.

Amazing
I honestly didn't expect this book to have the effect on me that it did. Unless you have been living under a rock I'm sure you have heard the law of attraction explained by numerous sources. I watched the movie 'The secret' and I didn't like it. I thought it focused to heavily on using it to gain possessions, it was very materialistic and not for me. This book was not like that at all I loved this book so much that after this review I'm going back to listen again. This stuff really works. The changes that have happened since I began reading this book are almost unbelievable.

Tripe
Overall premise is good and the first chapter or two was worth listening to.
However, it spirals sharply into nonsense.

Great life messages
Good book with many great life messages. Only downfall is it can be super corny at times.
I have read other books with the same life messages and found them to be more down to earth and easier to relate and listen to.

First audio book, well worth every minute.
Loved it, it has truly helped me to change the way I think, between starting it and the end I have already changed habits. Would highly reccomend to anyone wanting to better the lives of themselves and those arou d them.

ridiculous
Some things i agree with but this book basically says that the people that die in a plane crash or similar tragedy was because they were all thinking negative thoughts

Feel good dribble
It seemed to be a few unoriginal ideas mashed together and called the secret. No real order, a lot of repetition and grand statements. I would have liked some facts, I don't think Einstein or Henry Ford knew the secret just because they had a good quote on self-belief but the book made me feel empowered and happy. A silly book to debunk with friends and family. Good at 1.5 speed.
