The inspiration for these poems is life in general at times of great emotion or at night I would wake up and write or sometimes one line of a poem would run around in my head until I put it down on paper or until I wrote the rest of the lines to finish it. Doch davon wird die Energie, die aus den Gedichten spricht, in keinerlei Hinsicht getrübt. Storm selbst hielt jedenfalls seine Lyrik für gelungener als seine weitaus bekannteren Novellen.
