What Happens When It Gets Quiet?

There’s a difference between being alone and feeling lonely.

A couple of months ago, my life changed pretty quickly. A relationship ended, I moved out on my own for the first time, and on the days I didn’t have my daughter, I found myself coming home to something I wasn’t prepared for:

Silence.

In this episode of Unfinished, I talk about loneliness, one particularly difficult night that forced me to sit with everything I was feeling, and what started happening when I stopped trying to escape the quiet.

Because as uncomfortable as silence can be, sometimes it gives us the space to hear the things we’ve been avoiding.

The quiet hasn’t disappeared. But somewhere along the way, some of it started to feel a little less lonely—and a little more peaceful.

What Are You Teaching Them?

As parents, we spend a lot of time thinking about the lessons we want to teach our kids. But what are they learning from us when we're not intentionally teaching them anything?

In this episode of Unfinished, I talk about the pressure I put on myself to be a good dad while still figuring out my own life. After a difficult bedtime moment with my daughter forces me to confront the way I handled my own emotions, I reflects on mistakes, accountability, apologizing to our kids, and breaking patterns from our own childhoods.

Because maybe being a good parent isn't about getting everything right.

Maybe it's about showing our kids what it looks like when we get it wrong—and what we choose to do next.
