  • I Wasn't Ok, I Just Didn't Say It
    2026/08/30

Last week we talked about resting without guilt. This week, that theme got real in a way we didn't expect.

Over the past 24 hours, Jake opened up about something he'd been carrying for over two months, a wave of depression that came back without warning, and that he didn't know how to say out loud, even to the person he tells everything to.

In this episode, Jake talks through what it's been like to smile through the hard days, why he waited so long to say something, and the moment last night when he finally did. We get into the difference between feeling flat and actual depression, whether it's tangled up with the chest pain and anxiety from a couple of weeks ago, and what it really looks like to support someone you love through it without trying to fix them.

This one is raw and unscripted. We're not doing it because it's easy. We're doing it because it's honest, and because someone listening probably needs to hear it.

  • Why You Feel Guilty for Resting (And How to Stop)
    2026/08/23

Last Sunday, one of us ended up in hospital with chest pain, and even sitting there waiting for test results, the first thought wasn't "am I ok?" It was "what am I going to tell my boss?"

That's the moment this episode is built around. We're unpacking why rest feels like something we have to "earn", and why taking a day off (sick, tired, or just done) comes wrapped in so much guilt.

In this episode we get into:

    - The real story behind our hospital run and the decision to take the next day off

    - "Introjected motivation" - the psychology term for doing things out of guilt instead of genuine want, and why it burns you out

    - Why guilt is a social emotion, and how to tell if your environment is actually supportive or just making you feel worse

    - The childhood conditioning that taught us we had to be "on our deathbed" to justify a day off

    - A simple self-comparison trick for cutting through guilt: what would you tell your best friend in your position?

If you've ever pushed through a day you should have taken off, at work, at the gym, anywhere, this one's for you.
