  • Living in the Present: A Walk, A Reflection & a Lesson About Life
    2026/08/12

At The Mind & Us Podcast, our aim is to simplify mental health and psychological wellbeing so that everyone can understand it and apply it to everyday life.A special thank you to Mike Chapman from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for the incredible tour, the insightful talk, and for kindly giving us permission to film during our visit. We are very grateful for the opportunity to share this experience. Throughout the filming, we made every effort to be respectful of the cemetery, the graves, and those visiting, keeping our cameras as far back as possible and ensuring that our filming did not disturb the peaceful surroundingsA walk through a cemetery can changed your perspective on life!Walking through the cemetery and reflecting on the lives remembered here inspired this episode of The Mind and Us. It prompted me to think about how precious life is, and why being fully present in the moments we have can be so beneficial for our mental health and overall well-being.In this episode of The Mind & Us Podcast, we take a reflective walk through a cemetery and explore one of life’s most important reminders: we are not guaranteed tomorrow, so we must learn to value today.Surrounded by the quiet of a cemetery, this episode becomes a powerful reflection on living in the present, protecting your psychological health, and appreciating the life you have right now. We explore how constantly waiting for the “right time” can prevent us from doing the things that matter — pursuing our dreams, spending time with the people we love, taking care of ourselves, and simply enjoying being alive.Living in the present doesn’t mean ignoring the future. It means not sacrificing today’s wellbeing for a tomorrow that isn’t guaranteed. So much of our mental energy is spent dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Yet research and lived experience both suggest that our greatest sense of peace, meaning, and connection is found in the present moment. Being present doesn't mean ignoring life's challenges; it means fully engaging with the life we have, while we have it.As we walk among these reminders of mortality, we'll explore how awareness of life's limits can help us live more fully, appreciate what matters most, and nurture a healthier mind. This is a motivational and honest reflection on mental health, mindfulness, gratitude, personal growth, and making the most of life. If you’ve been putting something off, waiting until everything is perfect, or feeling caught up in worries about the future, this episode is a reminder to pause, breathe, and ask yourself:Are you actually living your life, or are you constantly waiting to start?Take this walk with us. Reflect. Slow down. Appreciate where you are. And remember — life is happening now.If you found this episode helpful, meaningful, or motivating, please consider sharing it with someone who might benefit from it.And if you enjoyed the episode, don’t forget to like and subscribe to The Mind & Us Podcast so you can be notified when our new episodes are released.Thank you for being part of our community, and remember: your mental wellbeing matters, and sometimes the most important step is simply to pause, reflect, and live in the present.#LivingInThePresent #MentalHealth #Mindfulness #MentalWellbeing #Motivation #PersonalGrowth #SelfImprovement #TheMindAndUs

Mental health affects every one of us, whether personally or through someone we care about. Yet it remains one of the most misunderstood topics in society. At The Mind & Us, our mission is simple: to break down complex mental health topics into clear, balanced, and accessible discussions that everyone can understand.

Future episodes will feature conversations with psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health nurses, therapists, researchers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals, alongside people with lived experience of mental health conditions. Together, we'll explore topics including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD, autism, personality disorders, trauma, addiction, psychological therapies, medication, recovery, well-being, and the latest evidence-based approaches to mental healthcare.

Your host is an experienced Mental Health Nurse, Independent and Supplementary Prescriber, Fellow of Higher Education (FHEA), and law graduate with many years of experience working across mental health services. Throughout a career dedicated to supporting people experiencing mental illness, one belief has remained constant: education has the power to reduce stigma, challenge misconceptions, and empower people to seek help when they need it.

By combining clinical expertise with real-life experiences, The Mind & Us aims to provide balanced, compassionate conversations that educate, inform, and inspire.
