  • What sets you up for a good day?
    2025/06/02

What truly sets someone up for a good day?

It’s a question without a single right answer—because a “good day” looks different for everyone.

For me it is a quiet start with a short walk outside for the dog and a good cup of coffee after that. Being outside and taking a deep breath, maybe early enough to catch the sunrise, listening to the birds and taking in the early morning vibes makes me feel grounded and better prepared. And good coffee is simply essential…

And after listening to other parents, professionals, and people navigating the messy middle of life, a few key themes continue to surface.

One of the biggest? A good day starts with intention

  • Who Am I Now? The Work, Identity & Parenthood Balancing Act
    2025/05/16

Today, we’re diving into a topic that touches almost every parent at some point... sometimes more than once.

That crossroads moment when you ask yourself:

Should I go back to work?

Should I step back from work?

    Can I even do both?

And if I do… who does that make me now?

And the thing is… this moment doesn’t just show up when your kids are babies. It can show up when they start school, when they seem to need you less, when they become teens… or even when the house is about to empty out.

This isn’t just about career choices. It’s about identity, It’s about guilt, And it’s about the quiet fear of what if I can’t handle it all?

We shine the spotlight back on you — not the chaos, not the to-do list — YOU.

We help you figure out what’s most important to you, what’s non-negotiable, and what assumptions might be holding you back from taking that next step with confidence.

  • How to Stop Procrastinating and Find Motivation Again—At Any Stage in Your Parenting Journey
    2025/04/16

At Parents are People too, we help parents feel human again. That means acknowledging that behind every packed lunch, bedtime story, and pediatrician appointment is a person—you—with dreams, goals, and yes… a tendency to procrastinate sometimes.

Let’s be honest—procrastination happens to all of us. Whether you’re knee-deep in diapers or navigating teen drama, there are days (or weeks!) when motivation just… disappears. And when you’re a parent, that lack of momentum can feel even heavier. The to-do list doesn’t pause, the family doesn’t slow down, and yet, you feel stuck.

So how do you break the cycle?

We use the Energy Leadership™ framework from iPEC Coaching to help our clients move from stuck to flowing—without guilt, shame, or hustle-culture pressure.

Let’s walk through what that can look like.

Procrastination isn’t laziness. It’s usually a sign that something deeper is going on—fear, fatigue, perfectionism, confusion, or simply burnout. Instead of beating yourself up, pause and ask:

“What am I really avoiding—and why?”

This simple awareness shifts you from reacting to choosing, which is a hallmark of Level 3 energy and higher in the Energy Leadership model. You’re already starting to take your power back.

At any given moment, you’re operating from one of seven energy levels. When procrastination hits, it’s often because we’re stuck in:

    • Level 1 (Victim Energy): “There’s no point. I’m too tired. Nothing I do matters.”

    • Level 2 (Conflict Energy): “I should be doing more. What’s wrong with me? Everyone else has it together.”

    Sound familiar?

The goal isn’t to stay in high-vibe energy all the time (that’s unrealistic, especially for parents), but to notice when you’ve dropped into lower levels and get curious.

    Ask yourself:

“What would it look like to move just one level up?”

Maybe that means reframing the task as a choice rather than a burden (Level 3), or remembering why it matters to you (Level 5). A small mindset shift can reignite your motivation.

Procrastination thrives on overwhelm. Instead of aiming for a grand overhaul, ask:

“What’s the smallest step I can take right now?”

Maybe it’s writing one sentence. Putting on your shoes. Sending that email. When we create momentum, motivation follows. The action doesn’t have to be perfect—it just has to be real.

Celebrate that tiny win. Dopamine loves progress.

When you’re constantly giving to others, your own wants can get buried under the rubble of everyone else’s needs. But your desires matter.

What do you want today? This month? In this season of life?

Energy Leadership helps you reconnect with your core values and inner purpose, which fuel sustainable motivation. When your actions align with your why, procrastination loses its grip.

    You’re not just a parent. You’re a person. And it’s okay to ask for help—whether that’s a coach, a friend, a therapist, or a support group.

At Parents are People too, we work with you to understand what’s underneath your resistance, how to manage your energy, and how to find your unique rhythm again—your version of motivated.

Because motivation isn’t something you chase—it’s something you cultivate, moment by moment, choice by choice.

Wherever you are in your parenting journey, remember this: You're allowed to pause, and you're allowed to start again. You are human. And you’re doing your best!

Here is the free Procrastination Buster Cheat Sheet for you!

We are starting our Signature Course "Mission I'm Possible" again soon - if you are ready to shine the spotlight on you and dive deeper - email us to learn more!

  • Reflection for new Parent Life for 2025
    2025/01/08

It is the beginning of a New Year - a fresh start, a new chance, new beginnings ....and the pressure is on already it feels like!

We are asked to reflect on the old year and so we do....

*How have we ‘performed’ as parents over the last year

*What did not work for us at all

*What do we want to take forward into the next 12 months?

This week, we want to offer you a different, non-judgmental perspective on our parenting that will help us set meaningful goals for the year ahead while lightening the guilt of what has passed this year.

I don’t know about you, but our inbox is stuffed full of invitations to review, reflect, and reveal what’s gone on in 2024 to help reset for the next 12 months.

Our common reaction to looking back is a feeling of: “Well, I could have done that a lot better, I could have said better, I should have been at X point by now.”

There’s a whole lot of self-judgment in there that can frankly just weighs one down and isn’t helpful. When thinking of our parenting, there’s another layer of guilt piled on top of the “could-have-done-better” list.

  • How to Include Your soon to be Graduate in Big Decisions Without Taking Over
    2024/11/14

When it comes to deciding what’s next after high school, or college it’s natural for parents to feel a mix of excitement, anxiety, and even a bit of nostalgia. Whether college, trade school, or a gap year, we all want what’s best for our kids—but sometimes our own expectations and emotions can take over, stifle their voices and create friction.

So how can we make sure we’re giving our teen or young adult the space to be part of the decision-making process and feel comfortable with it ?

  • What does the next phase after High School look like for both the kids and us as parents and how will it impact our relationship
    2024/11/08

This topic came up when we asked what parents want to learn more about. We love talking about this, as we know how very emotional this time can be for parents and kids equally. And understandably so! The transition after high school is a time of significant growth, excitement, and often uncertainty for both kids and parents. This new chapter brings fresh challenges as teens seek independence and begin to define their own paths, while parents face their own shifts, supporting from a distance and adjusting to new family dynamics.

Ultimately, this phase is about change - change that comes for the entire family as the structure they are used to is about to look different. So let’s look at what the cycle of change means for us and how we can use it to guarantee a positive impact moving forward.

There are many great models explaining the Cycle of Change - and we want to use the model used by iPEC, where we trained as coaches where we imagine the Cycle of Change as a “deck of cards" with four stages—Shuffle, Deal, Play the Game, and Toss In—each offering valuable insights to help both kids and parents embrace change with openness and resilience.

The Cycle of Change provides a roadmap for navigating this journey, offering both parents and kids a way to honor each stage, respect each other’s experiences, and move forward with mutual trust and understanding. Through this, families can embrace the new dynamics and continue to grow together, one step at a time.
