  • 59: My new favorite practice (that’s not journaling)
    2025/07/09

In this episode, I share with you my new favorite practice — that's not journaling.

I discovered it about a month ago when I was feeling pretty discouraged. I was frustrated with myself and I wanted to find a way to pull myself out of that moment. Typically, I'd do some journaling in that kind of moment — but it wasn't possible, and I also didn't *want* to. I know that for many of my clients, journaling just isn't their favorite — or maybe they do love it, but don't always have the time, or are looking for some new ideas.

I share what this practice is, the different ways I use it, what it helps me with — plus a few reasons why I've been recommending it to some of my clients lately.

I hope you get a chance to try this practice, and that it helps you as much as it has helped me.

  • 58: Balancing your energy "budget"
    2025/06/11

I suspect that many of you reading this have emergency funds, IRA's, and ETF portfolios.

I also suspect that you may be living "month-to-month," when it comes to your energy. You never seem to have much reserves, and you're always just a smidge stressed, tired, or frantic.

Recently, I said something to a client that was such a good distillation of my thoughts about energy + how to stop being in that constant, low-level energy debt. It seemed to really resonate with her, so I thought I'd share it with you, too.

This episode might help you do an audit of how you spend your energy, so you can balance your “budget” more effectively.

  • 57: When things don't come "naturally"
    2025/05/28

Is there some area of your life that doesn't come "naturally"? Maybe it's some element of your work, parenthood, friendship, marriage, or even a hobby.

If so, this episode is for you.

We want to be skillful at something, and we want it to come easily. And when it’s hard, when we work for it, we can feel frustrated and insecure.

Today I share two client stories, along with an insight I love (that's been bouncing around inside of me lately) on this topic.

I hope this episode helps you realize that if there’s something you’re struggling with, something that doesn’t come naturally, maybe that doesn’t have to be a weakness.

  • 56: One way to reduce stress + hours when you're a leader
    2025/05/14

I was working with two clients (who are both leaders and managers) in the past week, and I was giving them both very similar coaching.

Whenever that happens, I think: I should make a podcast about this.

(Think this episode doesn't apply to you because you aren't an official "manager"? I define leadership quite broadly, so there's a good chance the ideas I share will be helpful to you, too.)

Today I'm sharing the same advice I shared with them. I'm talking about how to reduce stress + hours when you’re a leader — while keeping work quality the same, or frequently improving it.

My suggestion? Take on developmental coaching of your team.

Today I define "developmental coaching," and then make my case for how it frees up time, reduces stress, and increases quality of output. I also give some common pieces of guidance if you would like to start doing developmental coaching.

Developmental coaching doesn't just help you as a leader, it also may change your team members in a meaningful way. I hope you’ll take this opportunity to act on your behalf, and on theirs.

  • 55: Edward’s Story
    2025/04/30

In this episode, I’m sharing an interview with my client Edward. Edward is a husband, a father of four, an avid traveler, and a business owner and consultant.

In our interview, he shares how he felt like his life was pretty good, but also felt off in ways he couldn't put his finger on.

He talks about what led him to work with me, and how in our work together he has deepened his relationships with himself, his wife, and his kids. He also shares how he intentionally strengthened and generated more friendships and shifted his relationship to work.

I’m sure his story and his insights will resonate with so many of you.

    Connect with Edward at edward.darling@hey.com.

  • 54: Making reading (almost) as easy as Instagram — and more fun
    2025/04/16

This episode is about reading, and how to help yourself read more.

I love reading, but that’s actually *not* why I’m making the argument for doing it more.

It’s because reading satisfies a very tricky set of conditions, in our modern lives: something that you can do, when you are completely exhausted, that does not have problematic side effects — and may actually make your life better.

I talk more about this very unique set of conditions that reading satisfies + I share 5 practical tips for how to make reading easier to do (and, yes, even more fun than Instagram!).

  • 53: One obstacle to clarity
    2025/04/02

I coach on clarity — or figuring out what you want — a lot.

I’ve realized recently there’s one thing that gets in the way of clarity with almost every client, at one point or another.

And that obstacle is: thinking too much about implementation before clarity is established.

So in this episode, I make my case for why we want to get clear on clarity before we even think too much about implementation + share 4 ways that I see implementation thoughts getting in the way of clarity. (Some of them are subtle + you're probably doing them without realizing.)

If you want clarity and you don’t yet have it, or you just want to build your skillfulness for when you’ll need clarity in the future, this episode is for you.

  • 52: Adaptability
    2025/03/19

Today I offer an idea that came up - as so many of my favorite ideas do - in working with one of my clients.

    That idea is: adaptability.

I share a client story, a definition of adaptability (that might not be what you've heard before), and how I've applied it to one of my own challenges — plus, what I think you might take away from it, too.
