    2026/07/06

Charlotte Gilliam is a learning support assistant. She has a longterm male partner and a five-year-old daughter. She realised she was bisexual after developing feelings for a woman when she was in her late 20s. Her partner has supported her coming out and she has found friendship and community in a gay choir.

Charlotte talks about bisexual invisibility, the joy of attending Pride with her partner and daughter, and how singing connects her to her identity, her found family and the LGBTQIA+ community as a whole.

Joining the LGBTQ+ community later in life can feel daunting. Charlotte suggests joining a gay choir or theatre group. She loves Thames Valley Gay Chorus. You can also find out about gay choirs across the UK via the Proud Voices network.
