  • Women & Self -Love/Reflection- Jacinta Mutonga
    2024/10/10

Keep in mind, there may be lots of things that interfere with your ability to prioritize a balanced self-care routine. For example, if you’re a people pleaser, you may quickly put others’ needs first, so you may need to slow down and sometimes say no. Or, if you struggle with guilt, acknowledge the guilt, and remember guilt is when you actually “do” something against your values. Taking action for your well being is doing something right!

Related to all of the myths listed above, some of those beliefs may contribute to developing anxiety, depression, feeling like you’re not enough or resentment towards those you love. It may make it really hard to do anything when you’re feeling that way; yet self-care activities will actually build your sense of self, improve your mood, and likely make you feel more empowered in your day-to-day life.

Creating a balanced self-care routine that you can count on benefits you and the people you love. You’ll feel better and more fulfilled, more present, healthier, and your family, friends, and loved ones will benefit from your energy and enthusiasm! And if it feels too difficult to do it alone, please reach out to me or another mental health professional to guide and support you. Reaching out to a therapist could be your first step to self-care!

  • Dating After 40 with Charity Cavanaugh, Life & Dating Coach
    2024/09/11

Though the idea of being part of the dating pool later in life can seem daunting, it doesn't have to be. In fact, dating in your 40s can (and should!) be a wonderful thing. You're braver, smarter, wiser, and more discerning than you were in your 20s and 30s, which means that finding the right partner can be both a fun and productive experience. Still, there are nuances to be aware of that likely weren't factors when you were dating in your earlier years.

You may not have been as dedicated to your career or had fewer financial responsibilities. You also may not have had the experience of deeper relationships to learn from. But that's not to say these factors can, or will, negatively impact your ability to find the love of your life—especially if you're equipped with the tools you need to date effectively.

So what’s this “fun secret” to losing weight I’m talking about? Taking it easy, and slowing down. Weight loss is a great way to alleviate your incontinence. You get rid of that excess weight on your bladder and strengthen your body so you can battle incontinence symptoms. This fun secret to losing weight isn’t just for people with incontinence though, it works for everybody! So learn how slowing it down and taking it easy can help you lose weight.

Everyone wants to lose weight fast. How to lose 10 pounds in two weeks! Lose twenty pounds in one month! The list of extreme diets and exercises are endless. While many of these quick weight loss plans work (yes, if you eat only 1,200 calories a day of course you will lose weight, you are essentially starving yourself) they are not realistic. Most people who actually need to lose weight can’t break into completely different lifestyles. It’s hard for most people in general to form completely different lifestyles! So yeah, if you want to lose 10 pounds in two weeks (which I don’t think is possible) you have to go hard and fast. But if you want to effectively lose actual fat, you should slow down and take it easy on your body and mind.

  • Blended Families with Yvonne & Job Ochieng
    2024/09/11

A blended family or stepfamily forms when you and your partner make a life together with the children from one or both of your previous relationships. The process of forming a new, blended family can be both a rewarding and challenging experience. While you as parents are likely to approach remarriage and a new family with great joy and expectation, your kids or your new spouse’s kids may not be nearly as excited. They’ll likely feel uncertain about the upcoming changes and how they will affect relationships with their natural parents. They’ll also be worried about living with new stepsiblings, whom they may not know well, or worse, ones they may not even like.

Some children may resist changes, while you as a parent can become frustrated when your new family doesn’t function in the same way as your previous one. While blending families is rarely easy, these tips can help your new family work through the growing pains. No matter how strained or difficult things seem at first, with open communication, mutual respect, and plenty of love and patience, you can develop a close bond with your new stepchildren and form an affectionate and successful blended family.

  • Parent - Child Relationships, A father's Perspective with Sandy Dwayne Cornelius
    2024/07/21

Dads really do matter. Children need fathers – just as they need mothers – to love them, to be interested in them and to respond to their needs, making them feel valued and understood.

Fathers (and father figures) make a vital contribution to their children’s development. What fathers have to offer their children is different from what mothers offer, but it is just as important to the child. The differences between men and women as parents are not laid down for us – each family discovers them in its own way.

Fathers also matter because they are important to their partners. Their parents’ relationship is the model of relating that children take on board, so the success or failure of their own future relationships will be deeply influenced by how their parents manage things. That is not to say that parents have to be perfect. But it is important for children to see their parents working together to try to sort out the difficulties that every family face from time to time.

  • Effects of Culture & Stigma on Mental Health with Dr. Lilian Odera, Clinical Psychologist
    2024/07/21

Some of the effects of stigma include: feelings of shame, hopelessness and isolation. reluctance to ask for help or to get treatment. lack of understanding by family, friends or others.

Stigma, characterized by negative stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination, is a significant impediment in psychiatric care, deterring the timely provision of this care and hindering optimal health outcomes. Pervasive in all aspects of psychiatric care, stigma leads to delayed treatment, increased morbidity, and diminished quality of life for those with poor mental health.

Hence, better understanding the impact of stigma across different cultural contexts is critically essential, aiming to inform culturally nuanced strategies to minimize its consequences and contribute to a more equitable and effective psychiatric care system. The purpose of the present literature review is twofold (i) to examine the existing research on the stigma surrounding psychiatry across different cultural contexts and (ii) to identify the commonalities and differences in the nature, magnitude, and consequences of this stigma in different cultures in the psychiatry field. In addition, potential strategies for addressing stigma will be proposed. The review covers a range of countries and cultural settings, emphasizing the importance of understanding cultural nuances to combat stigma and promote mental health awareness globally.

  • Inner Child/Childood Trauma with Joan.W.Mwangi - Certified Adult Chair Life Coach
    2024/07/09

Your ‘inner child’ can have a huge impact on your life. Find out how to connect with this younger part of yourself and heal any past pains or traumas...

Although we can’t see them, each of us has a second self that follows us every place that we go. This second self is usually a few feet shorter than us and a good many years younger. They can drive our decisions, create irrational fears and even sabotage our dreams. They could also be the reason why we resent our boss, keep dating the wrong people or why when we visit our family, we might suddenly feel stroppy or out of sorts.

But who is this second self and what do they want? They are in fact what’s known as the ‘inner child’, that younger part of you that is still five years old (or seven, or nine). And whether you realize it or not your relationship with them can have a huge impact on your life. In fact, everything from your mental health, physical wellbeing, achievements, relationships with others and even ability to feel joy can all be affected by this younger you.

But what do we mean by ‘inner child’ exactly? And how can we learn to listen to what this younger version of ourselves is trying to tell us?
