Dr. H was accused of threatening two staff members, one of whom was also his patient, with a loaded hypodermic needle when dissatisfied with their performance. Consequently, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) conducted disciplinary hearings, resulting in a five-month suspension of his dental license, mandatory completion of an ethics program, and a $15,000 fine. This case underscores the critical importance of maintaining professional and ethical conduct within healthcare settings.

  • #4 The Case of Dr. Q: Extraction of Asymptomatic Teeth
    2025/02/16

    Send us a text

Dr. Q, a general dentist in Ontario, treated Gloria, a patient with Lyme disease, for various dental concerns. In 2017, he extracted an infected tooth and placed an implant the same day. Later, he recommended extracting all nine of her root canal-treated teeth, citing concerns about dead tissue affecting her health. Despite Gloria’s reservations and her doctor’s concerns, he emphasized urgency while downplaying risks.

Between 2018 and 2019, Dr. Q performed extensive extractions and placed seven implants. Gloria later experienced pain and functional issues. Second opinions revealed poor planning, improper implant placement, excessive cement use, and no pre-existing infections in her extracted teeth. Dr. L, a new dentist, found that many implants were loose and poorly positioned.

Gloria filed a complaint, leading to Dr. Q’s suspension and penalties for unnecessary treatment, poor standards, misleading claims, and excessive fees. This case highlights ethical concerns in dental care and the importance of informed consent.
