  • Episode 44 | Roots, Relationships and Results | Shawn Moon
    2026/08/13
In this episode of The Counterfeit Emotions Podcast, Curtis Morley sits down with leadership expert and author Shawn Moon to discuss his upcoming book, Roots, Relationships, and Results. The book grew out of a multi-year research project in which Shawn and his co-authors interviewed more than 100 accomplished leaders, asking them a deceptively simple question:“What would your last leadership lecture be?”The answers revealed a surprisingly consistent pattern. The most important lessons weren't primarily about business tactics, productivity, spreadsheets, or management systems. Instead, they centered on who we become, how we treat people, the relationships we build, the results we create, and the contribution we leave behind.Shawn describes this as a leadership journey from Roots → Relationships → Results → Contribution. The "roots" are about personal authenticity, integrity and how we lead ourselves. Relationships are about seeing, inspiring, trusting and developing other people. Results are about creating sustainable outcomes. And ultimately, leadership becomes about what remains after the title, position and accolades disappear. One of the episode's most compelling ideas is that great leadership is less about seeming successful and more about becoming the kind of person capable of creating meaningful change. Shawn shares stories of leaders who saw potential in people before those people could see it in themselves. That belief and trust often became the catalyst for dramatically changing someone's career and life. The conversation also explores gratitude as a leadership competency, not merely a pleasant personality trait. Shawn describes gratitude as an "interrupter" that can change the trajectory of difficult interactions, while Curtis explains how being specific about why we're grateful makes the practice much more powerful.Another major theme is the hard side of love and leadership. Love isn't simply being nice or avoiding difficult conversations. Sometimes the most loving thing a leader can do is give someone difficult feedback because they see something better in that person than the person's current behavior reflects. Shawn shares a deeply personal example of receiving feedback that exposed a blind spot in his own leadership. The episode ultimately arrives at Curtis's powerful conclusion: “Connection is the goal. Surrender is the path.” For Curtis, the ultimate purpose of leadership, family, personal growth and life is connection—to ourselves, to other people, to love, gratitude and grace. Shawn agrees that authenticity and connection are central to the journey of becoming rather than merely appearing to be successful.CONNECT WITH SHAWN MOONBUY HIS BOOK - https://a.co/d/010kfdss Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/shawnmoon1/ LISTEN/WATCH/SUBSCRIBE TO THE “COUNTERFEIT EMOTIONS” PODCAST:*Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/counterfeit-emotions-podcast-with-curtis-morley/id1815869994*Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/0aGzO1BVLAXyGKfb4absPn?si=8c746decf9514fe3 *YouTube Podcasts - https://www.youtube.com/@AuthenticCurtis/podcasts *Amazon Music Podcasts - https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/05e74308-205e-4416-bc73-8fecd006f528/counterfeit-emotions-podcast-with-curtis-morley *iHeartRadio Podcasts - https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-counterfeit-emotions-podca-276824817 CONNECT WITH THE “COUNTERFEIT EMOTIONS” PODCAST*Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/authenticcurtis *LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/curtismorley/ *YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@AuthenticCurtis *TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@authenticcurtis *Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/AuthenticCurtis *X - https://twitter.com/AuthenticCurtis *Website - https://www.counterfeitemotions.com/ *Email for general messages - info@counterfeitemotions.com *Collab with us - info@counterfeitemotions.com *Book me to speak = speaking@curtismorley.com *Sponsor Us - info@counterfeitemotions.com

  • Becoming Untriggerable: The Power of Distress Tolerance | Martin Palmer | Episode 43
    2026/08/05

This episode of Counterfeit Emotions features therapist Martin Palmer, who shares powerful insights on distress tolerance, emotional resilience, and how to become less reactive in everyday life. Drawing from personal experiences (including breath-hold training through free diving), Palmer explains how intentionally embracing discomfort can retrain the brain, reduce emotional overreactions, and lead to greater inner peace.

The conversation explores how modern comfort has made people more sensitive to discomfort, and how practices like breath control, fasting, and challenging physical activities can help recalibrate the mind. The hosts also connect neuroscience—particularly the growth of the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC)—to resilience, emphasizing that chosen discomfort leads to mental and emotional growth.

The episode ties into the broader theme of “counterfeit vs. authentic emotions,” encouraging listeners to shift from victimhood to empowerment and reinterpret challenges as opportunities for growth.

  • Episode 42 | Love vs. Lust: The Truth About Porn’s Impact | Amy Burton
    2026/07/29
This episode of Counterfeit Emotions features host Curtis Morley and therapist Amy Burton discussing the complex relationship between love, lust, and pornography, and how these forces impact both men and women.A major focus is the rapid rise of pornography use among women, challenging the long-standing belief that it is primarily a male issue. Amy provides a therapist’s perspective on how pornography affects identity, shame, body image, and relationships—especially for women who often feel isolated due to stigma. The conversation emphasizes the importance of removing shame, fostering open dialogue, and helping individuals understand their relationship with explicit material in a healthy, constructive way. They also touch on broader themes of emotional awareness, healing pain without adding suffering, and redefining what real love looks like.Key Themes & TakeawaysLove vs. LustLove is rooted in connection, growth, and selflessness.Lust is often driven by consumption, objectification, and instant gratification.Confusing the two can damage relationships and emotional well-being.Pornography Is Not Just a Male IssueStats shared: ~91.5% of men and 60.2% of women viewed pornography in the past month. The industry has increasingly targeted women as a growing market. This shift is changing relationship dynamics and personal identity struggles. The Role of ShameShame is one of the most damaging aspects of pornography use.Women often experience heightened shame due to societal expectations.Removing shame opens the door to healing, honesty, and growth.Unique Impact on WomenWomen face internal conflict due to societal expectations of purity vs. sexuality.Increased exposure leads to identity confusion (“Which category do I belong to?”).Body image issues are amplified due to constant comparison and objectification.Objectification & Body ImagePornography heavily focuses on the female body. This creates unrealistic standards and self-comparison.Many women struggle with self-worth tied to appearance.Open Conversations Are CriticalThe question is no longer “if” someone is exposed—but “how are you handling it?”Honest, judgment-free dialogue fosters connection and healing.Pain vs. MiseryPain is inevitable, but suffering (misery) is often added through shame and avoidance.Learning to face pain constructively leads to emotional growth.CONNECT WITH AMY BURTONWebsite - https://www.aspirecounselingutah.com/ LISTEN/WATCH/SUBSCRIBE TO THE “COUNTERFEIT EMOTIONS” PODCAST:*Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/counterfeit-emotions-podcast-with-curtis-morley/id1815869994*Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/0aGzO1BVLAXyGKfb4absPn?si=8c746decf9514fe3 *YouTube Podcasts - https://www.youtube.com/@AuthenticCurtis/podcasts *Amazon Music Podcasts - https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/05e74308-205e-4416-bc73-8fecd006f528/counterfeit-emotions-podcast-with-curtis-morley *iHeartRadio Podcasts - https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-counterfeit-emotions-podca-276824817 CONNECT WITH THE “COUNTERFEIT EMOTIONS” PODCAST*Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/authenticcurtis *LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/curtismorley/ *YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@AuthenticCurtis *TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@authenticcurtis *Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/AuthenticCurtis *X - https://twitter.com/AuthenticCurtis *Website - https://www.counterfeitemotions.com/ *Email for general messages - info@counterfeitemotions.com *Collab with us - info@counterfeitemotions.com *Book me to speak = speaking@curtismorley.com *Sponsor Us - info@counterfeitemotions.com WE LOVE MAIL AND CARE PACKAGES!: Email us for the address: PRODUCTION CREDITS:Recorded at Mindset Content Creation StudiosProduced by Tommy MooreBrought to you by Vodcasts by Tommy Moore Presents - https://www.instagram.com/vodcasts_by_tommymoore/

  • Episode 40 | Detach Your Identity, Unlock Your Potential | Richie Norton
    2026/06/25
This episode of the Counterfeit Emotions Podcast features entrepreneur and author Richie Norton, who shares unconventional insights on time management, procrastination, identity, and purpose. Richie challenges traditional productivity norms by introducing concepts like “anti-time management” and “starting something stupid”—encouraging people to act on intuitive ideas rather than overthink or delay.A central theme of the conversation is procrastination, which Richie reframes not as laziness but as a symptom of deeper emotional dynamics—particularly shame, fear of failure, and identity attachment. He argues that people often delay meaningful work because they tie their self-worth to outcomes. The discussion also explores how modern life fragments identity, how entrepreneurs can accidentally trap themselves, and why having a compelling “why” eliminates procrastination altogether.Ultimately, the episode encourages listeners to detach from perfectionism, act from purpose, and pursue meaningful work with authenticity and courage.Key Themes & Takeaways“Anti-Time Management” PhilosophyTraditional time management can trap people in busyness rather than freedom.True productivity = time freedom + meaningful work (time flow over cash flow). An empty calendar can signal leadership—not laziness. The Power of “Starting Something Stupid”“Stupid ideas” are often intuitive, inspired ideas we resist. If it feels risky or uncomfortable, it’s often worth pursuing.Successful people often started with ideas others dismissed.Procrastination Isn’t Laziness100% of people procrastinate—it’s universal.Procrastination = misplaced effort on low-priority tasks.“Filling up on bread instead of eating the steak” analogy:Busy work = breadMeaningful work = steakThe Real Root: Shame & FearProcrastination is a surface-level behavior.Underneath lies:Fear of failurePerfectionismShame (“If I fail, I am a failure”)Avoidance protects identity.Identity & AttachmentPeople attach identity to outcomes (work = self-worth).Detaching identity from output reduces fear.“The creation is not the creator.”Deadlines Drive ActionPeople are most productive under pressure.Self-imposed or external deadlines are essential.Accountability accelerates execution.Purpose Eliminates ProcrastinationWhen the “why” is strong enough, action becomes inevitable.Example: A parent protecting their child—no hesitation.Lack of action often means:The goal isn’t meaningful enoughOR it feels too important (fear of failure)Fear, Pride & Perfectionism Trap GrowthHigh achievers often stop taking risks to protect reputation.Growth requires returning to a “beginner mindset.”Acting without fear or pride unlocks authenticity.CONNECT WITH RICHIE NORTONInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/richie_nort...Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/share/1H42Xu...Website - https://richienorton.com/time/?fbclid...LISTEN/WATCH/SUBSCRIBE TO THE “COUNTERFEIT EMOTIONS” PODCAST:*Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/counterfeit-emotions-podcast-with-curtis-morley/id1815869994*Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/0aGzO1BVLAXyGKfb4absPn?si=8c746decf9514fe3 *YouTube Podcasts - https://www.youtube.com/@AuthenticCurtis/podcasts CONNECT WITH THE “COUNTERFEIT EMOTIONS” PODCAST*Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/authenticcurtis *LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/curtismorley/ *YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@AuthenticCurtis *TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@authenticcurtis *Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/AuthenticCurtis *X - https://twitter.com/AuthenticCurtis *Website - https://www.counterfeitemotions.com/ *Email for general messages - info@counterfeitemotions.com PRODUCTION CREDITS:Produced by Tommy MooreBrought to you by Vodcasts by Tommy Moore Presents - https://www.instagram.com/vodcasts_by_tommymoore/

  • Episode 39 | From Attachment to Connection: A New Way to Understand Love | Katy Sine
    2026/06/17
In this profound conversation, Curtis Morley welcomes self-love researcher and positive psychology expert Katy Sine to explore one of humanity's most misunderstood concepts: self-love.The discussion begins with an overview of positive psychology—the science of human flourishing—and quickly expands into deeper questions about connection, attachment, vulnerability, love, and meaning. Katy explains that positive psychology isn't about ignoring pain; it's about intentionally cultivating strengths, positive emotions, and resources that help people navigate life's inevitable challenges.A central theme of the episode is the distinction between attachment and connection. While attachment serves as a necessary survival mechanism, true connection emerges when individuals become whole and integrated within themselves. Katy describes self-love not as selfishness or narcissism, but as a pathway to greater connection with others, the world, and something larger than oneself. The conversation explores the "ingredients" of love, including self-awareness, acceptance, compassion, vulnerability, intimacy, service, and connection. Katy argues that love is not simply an emotion but a motivating force that drives humans toward well-being, growth, and meaningful relationships. One of the most powerful moments comes when Katy dismantles the common misconception that self-love equals narcissism. She explains that the original story of Narcissus is actually about self-rejection and self-abandonment—not excessive self-love.The episode concludes with a discussion about peace, gratitude for life's hardships, and how genuine self-love creates the foundation for loving others more fully. Both hosts emphasize that love is ultimately a state of being rather than something to be achieved.CONNECT WITH KATY SINE*Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/self_love_sine/ LISTEN/WATCH/SUBSCRIBE TO THE “COUNTERFEIT EMOTIONS” PODCAST:*Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/counterfeit-emotions-podcast-with-curtis-morley/id1815869994*Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/0aGzO1BVLAXyGKfb4absPn?si=8c746decf9514fe3 *YouTube Podcasts - https://www.youtube.com/@AuthenticCurtis/podcasts *Amazon Music Podcasts - https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/05e74308-205e-4416-bc73-8fecd006f528/counterfeit-emotions-podcast-with-curtis-morley *iHeartRadio Podcasts - https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-counterfeit-emotions-podca-276824817 CONNECT WITH THE “COUNTERFEIT EMOTIONS” PODCAST*Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/authenticcurtis *LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/curtismorley/ *YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@AuthenticCurtis *TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@authenticcurtis *Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/AuthenticCurtis *X - https://twitter.com/AuthenticCurtis *Website - https://www.counterfeitemotions.com/ *Email for general messages - info@counterfeitemotions.com *Collab with us - info@counterfeitemotions.com *Book me to speak = speaking@curtismorley.com *Sponsor Us - info@counterfeitemotions.com WE LOVE MAIL AND CARE PACKAGES!: Email us for the address: PRODUCTION CREDITS:Recorded at Mindset Content Creation StudiosProduced by Tommy MooreBrought to you by Vodcasts by Tommy Moore Presents - https://www.instagram.com/vodcasts_by_tommymoore/

  • Episode 37 | Recovery Is Living a Life You Don’t Need to Escape | Dalton Tarufelli
    2026/05/21
In this deeply emotional episode of the Counterfeit Emotions Podcast, host Curtis Morley sits down with Dalton to discuss addiction, grief, shame, and ultimately, hope and healing.Dalton shares his devastating journey through alcoholism, rooted in unresolved pain, trauma, and loss. After losing his father to cancer at 17, Dalton struggled with deep emotional wounds that eventually led to severe alcohol addiction. During COVID, Dalton, his mother, and younger brother spiraled into daily alcohol abuse together. The turning point came in April 2021 when Dalton attempted CPR on his younger brother Derek after discovering him unresponsive from alcohol-related complications. Derek later passed away, leaving Dalton drowning in guilt, shame, and self-hatred.Over the following year, Dalton cycled through hospitals and detox centers while battling overwhelming grief and addiction. Eventually, with the support of his sister, grandfather, and friends, he entered Wasatch Recovery Center, where he began the difficult process of recovery. The conversation explores how addiction is often less about substances and more about escaping shame and emotional pain. Dalton explains how alcohol became a “safe place” that numbed fear and grief, while Curtis draws parallels between substance addiction and pornography addiction through the lens of shame-based coping.Through therapy, vulnerability, boundaries, surrender, and self-compassion, Dalton slowly rebuilt his sense of identity and worth. He describes learning to “sit with” his pain instead of running from it and reconnecting with the younger version of himself who simply needed love and reassurance.By the end of the episode, Dalton radiates peace, purpose, and emotional freedom. He now works helping others through recovery, lives without fear, and has found meaning in grief, relationships, service, and authenticity. The episode ultimately delivers a powerful message:Recovery is not about becoming perfect — it’s about learning that you are already worthy, even in your imperfection.CONNECT WITH THE DALTON TARUFELLIhttps://www.instagram.com/dalton.tarufelli/ LISTEN/WATCH/SUBSCRIBE TO THE “COUNTERFEIT EMOTIONS” PODCAST:*Apple Podcasts - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/counterfeit-emotions-podcast-with-curtis-morley/id1815869994*Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/0aGzO1BVLAXyGKfb4absPn?si=8c746decf9514fe3 *YouTube Podcasts - https://www.youtube.com/@AuthenticCurtis/podcasts *Amazon Music Podcasts - https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/05e74308-205e-4416-bc73-8fecd006f528/counterfeit-emotions-podcast-with-curtis-morley *iHeartRadio Podcasts - https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-counterfeit-emotions-podca-276824817 CONNECT WITH THE “COUNTERFEIT EMOTIONS” PODCAST*Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/authenticcurtis *LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/curtismorley/ *YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@AuthenticCurtis *TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@authenticcurtis *Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/AuthenticCurtis *X - https://twitter.com/AuthenticCurtis *Website - https://www.counterfeitemotions.com/ *Email for general messages - info@counterfeitemotions.com *Collab with us - info@counterfeitemotions.com *Book me to speak = speaking@curtismorley.com *Sponsor Us - info@counterfeitemotions.com WE LOVE MAIL AND CARE PACKAGES!: Email us for the address: PRODUCTION CREDITS:Recorded at Mindset Content Creation StudiosProduced by Tommy MooreBrought to you by Vodcasts by Tommy Moore Presents - https://www.instagram.com/vodcasts_by_tommymoore/
