  • What To Do When You Get Stuck | Beyond the Grind #037
    2025/12/15

Do you wake up on Monday mornings dreading the week ahead, even though you have a "good" career? That feeling of stagnation isn't always negative; sometimes it's the loudest signal that you are ready for your next level.

In this episode, we dissect the critical difference between being in a temporary rut and hearing a higher calling. We open up about our own journeys from feeling limited as a dental associate to the "golden handcuffs" of running a successful CPA firm and the sleepless nights that come with wanting more. We break down exactly how to identify if you are truly stuck, the importance of autonomy, and the strategic steps you must take to transition safely into your purpose without blowing up your life.

"You can't hate it. So for me, I would say you first have to understand, are you in a temporary rut? Or is this a greater calling?"

  • That Setback Could be a SetUp | Beyond the Grind #036
    2025/12/06

You’re not stuck. You’re just being set up.

Setbacks and failures are inevitable when you are building a business. But are you letting those setbacks stop you, or are you using them to build your playbook? In this episode, we break down why failures happen from building the wrong team to skipping the MVP and how to navigate them without losing your momentum.

We share a personal story about a failed "Uber for Hairstylists" venture that had a dream team of finance, sales, and legal experts but was missing the one thing a tech company actually needs. We also discuss the "Silver Tsunami," the dangers of jumping into industries like trucking blindly, and why you must emotionally detach yourself when doing due diligence on a new deal.

"Failure is not the end. It's the tuition that you pay to elevate to the next level."

  • Saying No Isn't Selfish, It's Strategy | Beyond The Grind #034
    2025/11/19

How do you say "no" without feeling guilty or selfish? We've all been there, stretching ourselves thin because our default is "yes".

In this episode, we get real about the struggle to say no. It’s not that you don't want to help; it's that you're juggling too much and have to learn to prioritize. I share a story about a good friend who came into town with no notice. In the past, I would have dropped everything, but I had to learn that protecting my existing commitments to family and work was more important. We break down how to build a "red rope policy" for your life and business, and why saying "yes" to everything can burn out your team.

"Every time you say yes to everything, you may get more opportunities... but you may be also losing opportunities and relationships that you already have."

  • Leadership Isn't a Title, It's an Action | Beyond The Grind #033
    2025/11/05

Are you waiting for a promotion to start leading? You've been told that leadership requires a title, a spotlight, or a loud voice. We're here to tell you that's a myth. The most powerful leaders, like Tim Duncan or Tim Cook, often build their influence quietly.

In this episode, we're going beyond the grind to discuss the benefits of quiet leadership in the workplace. We break down how you can influence, inspire, and drive results from any position.

I share a story about realizing the true impact of leadership only after a company failed, and how you can take initiative and build an "ownership mentality" long before you have any official authority.

True leadership is about consistency, humility, and getting the job done, not the hype."It's the ability to influence, inspire, and drive results without needing a title, spotlight, or loud voice".

  • Warren Buffett's 3 Rules for Wealth | Beyond The Grind #032
    2025/10/30

When you hear Warren Buffett is retiring, what's the one lesson that sticks? We're not talking about stock tips. We're talking about the fundamental mindset shifts that built an empire.

In this episode, we break down the principles we've learned from one of the greatest investors, starting with his famous million-dollar bet against hedge funds. We discuss the difference between "hype" and real "value", and why he spends 80% of his time just... reading. This leads to a deep conversation about "spending for value" versus a purely minimalist lifestyle. I even share a story about flying business class for the first time and realizing I could never go back, it's all about your perceived value. At the end of the day, it's about building something that lasts.

"Someone who is sitting under a shade is only able to sit under that shade because they planted that tree... a long time ago."

  • STOP Following Your Passion | Beyond The Grind #031
    2025/10/22

Is "Follow Your Passion" the Worst Career Advice You Can Get? We talk about a CNBC article stating that passion is a luxury of the rich and why focusing on being skilled and valuable in areas with market demand is a better strategy for most people. We believe people give advice based on what worked for them, which might not be unique or helpful to you.

We talk about the danger of blindly taking billionaire career advice when you lack their assets or resources, especially in fields like finance and taxes. We also talk about the crucial role of timing and external factors in success, noting how easy it is for successful people to negate the role of luck in their packaged stories. Ultimately, all advice, even from qualified experts, must be viewed as a single puzzle piece, not the whole frame.

"Most people would be better off focusing on being skilled and valuable in the areas where the market has demand. And then it says that passion tends to follow competence, not the other way around."

  • Work-Life Balance Is A SCAM | Beyond The Grind #030
    2025/10/10

Is the concept of work-life balance a scam? We're taking an honest, no-nonsense look at the true cost of entrepreneurship and the sacrifices you must make to achieve real success. We argue that constant "balance" is a myth, and ambitious growth requires embracing seasons of intense focus. We break down how to set clear boundaries, manage expectations with your partner, and ensure you're not just running in circles.

We share our personal experiences, including how I had to navigate the shift from a 15-year grind to new availability, and what my wife taught me about reallocating that time for holistic growth.

This is all about strategic navigation, knowing when to push and when to reset so you don't get lost in the family first myth. It’s time to define your season of success and pay the sacrifice for ambition.

The reality is that I would have run it by her and told her like, "Hey," she would have been like, "Yeah, we got a $10 million deal." She would be like, "What are you doing on the phone?"

  • Stop Hating Feedback | Beyond The Grind #029
    2025/10/03

Are you a business owner struggling to figure out why they're leaving or not coming back? The answer is likely in the feedback you’re not getting or the way you’re giving it. In this critical episode, we dissect the art of feedback: how to ask for it, how to give it, and most importantly, how to receive it without getting defensive.

We share a personal story about a high-stakes corporate moment when one of us received a piece of feedback from a superior. We weren't sure the superior was correct, but we understood that perspective is reality. Instead of reacting defensively, we chose to take a "poll" with other colleagues to see if this was a common viewpoint or just one person's opinion. This is a prime example of putting aside ego to seek Holistic Growth and improve how you show up for your team.

We discuss why you can't be too blunt when delivering feedback, you have to frame it from the angle of I'm trying to help you. Learn the difference between giving feedback as a means of venting versus an attempt to drive change. Remember, feedback is the breakfast of champion, and complacency is the enemy of progress.

"I always tell my staff, anytime you're getting feedback, I want you guys to start from a foundation that no one hates you, no one is trying to tear you down, no one is trying to take your job. So they don't have to be defensive. Like, yeah, you know, like just start with that as a foundation."
