この著者にしては珍しく病院ではなく自然の中での話だったので、いつもと違った感じで良かった。
めちゃくちゃ仲の悪い夫婦が危機に瀕してだんだん仲良くなっていくのも面白かった。
「いったい誰が犯人なのか？」と気にしながら読んでたけど、まさかの真犯人だったので「やられた」感じで楽しめた。

終盤まで緊張感があり面白かったですが、犯人の性格や動機にかなり不自然さを感じ、リアリティには欠けていました。フリーダ・マクファデンの作品はいくつか読んでいますが、今作もまた、良くも悪くも読後にほとんど余韻が残らず、読み終わった後数時間経ったら内容をかなり忘れてしまうくらいでした。
この小説は、現在の主人公と過去の匿名の人物という二つの視点から交互に描かれる構成となっています。しかし匿名人物の声がまるでボイスチェンジャーを使っているかのようにくぐもっていて、非常に聞き取りづらかったです。性別を隠すための演出だとは思いますが、個人的には少し残念に感じました。
とはいえ短時間で楽しめるエンタメ作品を探している方にはおすすめです。英語も非常に平易なので初心者にもぴったりだと思います。
