あらすじ・解説

A serial rapist is kidnapping teenage girls. But he’s not interested in just any teenage girls - only virgins. He hunts them by following their status updates and check-ins on social media. Once he’s captured them, they’re locked away in his sound-proof basement until they’re groomed and ready. He throws them away like pieces of trash after he’s stolen their innocence. Nobody escapes alive.

Until Ella.

Ella risks it all to escape, setting herself and the other girls free. But only Sarah - the girl who's been held captive the longest - gets out with her. Both girls are hospitalized and surrounded by FBI agents who will stop at nothing to find the man responsible. Ella and Sarah are the key to their investigation, but Sarah’s hiding something, and it isn’t long before Ella discovers her nightmare is far from over.

So confused!

I hate to give a bad review that also reflects poorly on the author as well as the other narrator but the narrator for one of the protagonists is one of the worst I’ve ever attempted to get past but despite my extensive efforts, I just can’t!! It’s unfortunate because this could probably be a decent book but I honestly have no idea what’s going on because I can’t hear anything beyond her absolutely horrible robotic tone! Honestly, I think Siri could do better!!

Monotone Narration

I struggled to listen to Sarah, she was too monotone and flat. I didn't enjoy the narrator for the male characters either. However, the story line, development, and action were good and believable. I will avoid this narrator in the future.

Siri narrates!

I tried so hard to not listen to the reviews and make it through this book but I feel like I’m listening to Siri read me a book! I couldn’t get with it and exchanged the book for a different one. I refuse to listen to any more books if this chick narrates them!

It would have been better without the robot narrator

This book had me from the beginning but I would have enjoyed it more if they had gotten a different reader for Sarah....

The Mother was Oblivious!

This story line is so tedious. I understand that the author is trying to paint a picture with words but this book made me feel like every single little detail had to be describe to within a nano-meter. The story-line was designed to "pull" not only at an individual's greatest fear of being kidnapped but also perhaps at the fear of abandonment. Other than the aforementioned highlights this story-line is so long and drawn-out that I lost interest in it several time. So why did I keep coming back to finish the book...heck I don't know why. Maybe I am a glutton for punishment. By the way, I just wanted to reach out and slap the mom across the face in this story...sorry I had to say it!

Siri also narrates for Audible?! Dont quit your day job Siri....

If it weren’t for the other characters, I would have lost my s**t listening to the character called Sarah. 95% of the time she speaks in a rhythm identical to Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall... Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.... All the Kings... you get the point. And the tone of the characters voice is literally Siri from my iPhone. I can barely stand listening to her give me directions... let alone narrate an entire book lasting hours....?! Kill me. Once in a while the monotone Humpty Dumpty rhythm would die off a bit and it would be like... idk... sweet relief? Like the heavens opened up and had mercy on my ears. Just in time too... cuz I felt like my ears were just short of ripping themselves from the sides of my head and making a run for it.
Literally EVERYTHING ELSE ABOUT THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME. And this is my FIRST time leaving a review... my hope is the person who did this character may actually see this or at least hear about it and I will have a chance to say... for the love of god... please kill that character off, or voice you developed for narration... whatever it is.... kill it. Bury it in an unmarked grave so no one will ever find it... and most importantly... STOP COMBINING RHYTHM WITH NARRATION. Its the absolute worst thing for a person to have to listen to and ENDURE for HOURS. I may never recover.....

Narration was terrible!! Completely robotic.

Worst narration I've experienced. One character was whiney and the other sounded like a robot from the 70's!! I had to struggle to get to the end. It may have been a decent story, but how could you tell??

Lucinda Berry is a fiction goddess!

Love, love, love this book! It is so descriptive that I honestly almost passed out in some scenes (very skittish when it comes to blood) but I consider that a good thing when it comes to a book! You really feel Ella's pain. If you are easily triggered you may want to avoid but chances are if you're looking at this section on audible you will love it. The narrator could have sounded like she was a little less uncomfortable but overall the narration was good as well. The story line was phenomenal and if you love Lucinda Berry, like myself, you won't regret this one!
