あらすじ・解説

A whole-family listen for fans of Hotel Transylvania and The Addams Family.

When Tom is invited to the reading of a will of a great-uncle he’s never heard of, there’s no way to know what to expect. But on the long list of possible things to inherit, a travelling carnival ghost train is the very last on the list.

To get his full $10 million inheritance, all Tom has to do is run the antique ride until his 18th birthday. Easy. Except for a strange caped-creep he’s never met, who’s trying to con him out of the money...and the actual ghosts and ghouls who call the ride home.

Over the decades, vampire Vlarad, zombie Wombie, Hop-Tep the mummy, werewolf Welf, and ghost girl Mimi have created their own unique family, and they welcome Tom into their circle as a first-time "ghostsitter".

Keeping the spirits secret from the outside world is not easy, but with wit and ingenuity, Tom proves, time and again, that he is exactly the right person for the job.

Great Wombie’s Rabbit! Fun kids book.

You can stay in your PJs, grab the Boo Berries, and listen to this story like you did as a 10 year old watching a string of Scooby Doo episodes.

This is definitely geared toward the elementary age group rather than teens. Sweet and sugary rather than Goosebumps scary. There are a lot of sound effects and audio gags to match the hammy humor. Starting off each section is a laugh-in style music track that had me envisioning go-go dancers in cages ... only with kids... like maybe Yo Gaba Gaba. The ensemble cast were phenomenal as they embraced the exaggerated storytelling style that children’s books demand.

The great audio gimmicks and huge cast, however, could not carry the story. The story reads like a play, all dialogue to get you from one scene to the next. But with plays, the visuals let you fill in the dialogue with images of the characters and settings. Without those visuals, the lack of written detail about characters/setting made the story as ephemeral as Mimi the ghost. Even my 10 year old lost interest about three hours in and asked me to just tell him how it ended. I got him back into it when Wombie attacked.

Much like those Saturday morning Scooby Doo episodes, this story is fine but ultimately forgettable. Worth it for the younger kids, especially for free as part of the monthly Audible listen.

Safe from politics, religion, and profanity (worst word was “heck”). Not safe from monsters, wizards, and demons.

A lot of fun

A fun, light, engaging story. Well performed. My only complaint was invoking Rufus T. Firefly without a Groucho impersonation. I hope the other stories are adapted into English as well.

Poorly Written with Awful Dialogue

I am pretty sure this book was written for children as it’s audience, but it’s still no excuse for the terrible dialogue and obvious anti-religious agendas of the author. The 2 minute song at the end of each chapter is pretty bad as well. I got most of the way through but finally had to give up with an hour left. It was just too painful on my ears.

Radio Show Style & Family Friendly

This was a lot of fun. It's a full cast in the old radio show style with all the sound effects. It has four chapters that are about an hour in length and are like individual episodes of the story with theme song at the end of each. I listened with my boys (10 & 14 years old) and they really loved it and are hoping they do another one. It's a ghostly monster adventure story and I would say it's geared towards older elementary 2-3rd grade to middle school. The it was pretty clean with minor language that did include words on the same level as "crap" and "dang it". This has a bit of a sweet Scooby Doo or Hotel Transylvania vibe rather than Goosebumps or scarier. Definitely recommend it especially considering it's one of the members free picks for the month of June.

disturbing prejudice in a cute children's story

I was raised to believe in treating other peoples religious beliefs with respect ,even if they differ from. my own.I find a children's book that has heavenly angels creating demons that they use to slaughter innocent people even children an inexcusable demonstration of prejudice in a children's book. It'sunclear if the author is anti-semitic,antichristian, antimuslim, or an atheist, since Elijah is a prophet in 5 different religions, but equally disturbing no matter what the cause.Parents need to be careful to listen to Audible originals before their children do.

sacrilegious

The was a dull story until the point they brought the Prophet Elias in as the master of demons. Before that it was a 3-star review. Performance is good, though.
