In this series we listen to short stories that are NOT by perhaps the most well-known author of this type. But the many other rich talents in the volume may have treated the subject matter a little differently, or were perhaps just overlooked in the stampede to applaud the winner, but these authors are of equal merit.

When it comes to expressing the pleasure and pain of being just a touch too smart to be happy, Dorothy Parker is still the champion, after all these years. Along with Robert Benchley, Alexander Woollcott, and the rest of the Algonquin Round Table, she dominated American popular literature in the...

Delve into the sharp wit and keen observations of a world where social norms and human relationships are scrutinized through a satirical lens, as suggested by the title "Enough Rope." This podcast collection invites listeners to explore the complexities of love, ambition, and the often absurd nature of societal expectations. With every unique exploration, listeners are encouraged to reflect on the nuances of human behavior and the intricate dance ...

Mind Over Matrix: Moving Beyond the Programmed Welcome to *Mind Over Matrix*, where we break free from the confines of programmed realities and explore the true potential of consciousness. This channel is dedicated to those who seek to challenge their preconceived notions of identity, reality, and self-awareness. Here, we dive deep into the illusions that shape our lives, unraveling the societal, religious, and psychological constructs that keep us bound to a limited existence.

Collected here are three of Dorothy Parker's earliest works: two collections of poetry—Enough Rope and Sunset Gun as well as her short, hilarious collection of stories recounting all of the men she managed to avoid marrying named (appropriately) Men I'm Not Married To.

In this follow-up to her best-selling debut collection of poetry (Enough Rope from 1926) Dorothy Parker published Sunset Gun (1928) her second of three volumes of short verse. One of the 20th century's most celebrated and renowned humorists, Parker once again delivers a biting, satiric, and insightful look at love, life, and literature in this brilliant collection.

Literary cohorts and members of the famous Algonquin Round Table, Dorothy Parker and Franklin P. Adams, made these two short audiobooks to humorously contrast the experiences of both men and women meeting, dating...and then deciding not to marry various men and women in their lives.

A collection of observations about the male of the species from one of the 20th century's most celebrated and renowned humorists, Men I'm Not Married To is a series of descriptions of nine men, all of whom Parker managed to avoid accompanying down the aisle. Some longer, some very short, each of these descriptions shows Parker's full range of wit, sardonic humor, and wry cynicism.

Dorothy Parker - social commentator, political reformer, and legendary wit - has enjoyed a special place in American culture for almost a century, and Enough Rope is an early example of Parker's unique and wry commentary on modern life.  It is presented here in its original and unabridged format.

Enough Rope was Dorothy Parker's first published collection of poems, and was a best seller. The Nation described her verse as "caked with a salty humor, rough with splinters of disillusion, and tarred with a bright black authenticity."

Parker’s poems continue to resonate today. She was trying to make sense of who she was in a world that was busy telling her who she could and should be, regardless of how she felt about it. Aren’t we all? Having Parker’s acerbic irreverence and wit reflect our own lives back to us, in which, as she says, “good and bad are woven in a crazy plaid”, gives us reassurance, perspective, courage, and a much needed laugh.

Welcome to my show! My collections are inspired by Norwegian poetry as these lack rhyme and rhythm. Though without rhythm, these verses are lovely to read aloud. Enjoy.

From wild and wacky to knee-slapping, laugh-out-loud fun, these humorous tales represent some of the best of recent seasons of the hit public radio series Selected Shorts. Comedian Wyatt Cenac gives a killer performance of Simon Rich’s hilarious tale of woe from the point of view of a condom in a young man’s wallet. Alec Baldwin gives a delightful over-the-top performance of James Thurber’s wonderfully silly classic tale of the day everybody in a small Ohio town thought the dam broke.

A 77-year-old woman reflects back on her life and thinks that it’s time she shares the greatest thing she has learned. She does. And it’s..."there was nothing more fun than a man".

In this story, by American writer Dorothy Parker, a woman gives a laundry list of men she's not married to. She also convincingly states the reasons why she is not and would not want to be married to the various men. Parker's wit and humor shine through as the eccentricities and foibles of the men are described.

Mr. and Mrs. Wheelock live with their five-year old daughter in a small house in a tidy suburb. Although they present the picture of a happy little family, the old adage "appearances can be deceiving" could certainly apply to their household. This was American author and celebrated wit Dorothy Parker's first published short story.

Women's Short Stories - Volume 4. The art of writing a short story can be barely noticed by a reader such is the quality with which they are usually written. It is a difficult trade, an unforgiving discipline but for those who master it the rewards is many.
