As the name suggests, the legendary sagas are works of fiction. It is in these sagas that we meet all manners of fantastic creatures, hear of the exploits of heroes and villains, and occasionally see the gods peek in to steer events or punish evildoers. The sagas of Icelanders, by contrast, are largely historical works that tell the stories of the families who left continental Scandinavian lands to settle Iceland beginning in the late ninth century.

"Il principe" (titolo assegnato nell'edizione originale postuma di Antonio Blado e poi unanimemente adottato, ma il titolo originario era in lingua latina: De Principatibus, "Sui principati") è un saggio critico di dottrina politica scritto da Niccolò Machiavelli probabilmente tra la seconda metà del 1513 e l'inizio del 1514, nel quale espone le caratteristiche dei principati e dei metodi per conquistarli e mantenerli. Si tratta senza dubbio della sua opera più nota e celebrata.

The Pequot War (1636-1638) was a short-lived but extremely violent and bloody episode in United States history. This event represents one of the turning points in the entire history of North America, as the war changed the balance of power. The Dutch colonial authorities lost their status of being the dominant economic and political force, while the English took over this epithet. The end of the war also represented the first stage in England’s intensive expansion in that part of the world.

Two hundred years ago, slavery had the Southern United States firmly in its evil grip. Around four million African Americans languished in the most appalling of living conditions, their lives controlled by people who saw them as objects. They were starved, whipped, and put to work despite being pregnant, sick, or so young that they could barely walk.

Germany is a relatively young nation-state. United in 1871, it's even younger than the United States. However, the territories inhabited by the Germanic people have a rich history that reaches far back in prehistory and antiquity. Located in the heart of Europe, Germany witnessed centuries of conflicts, immigration, and negotiations. Consequently, its shape, size, and ethnicity changed throughout history. The territories which constitute Germany today were often war zones, and at times they would join forces against a common enemy or break apart due to internal conflicts.

Venereal diseases exploded into an epidemic in World War II. This endangered the health and safety of our nation and our troops. In many recountings of this war, the fight against VD is not included, but it was a battle worth highlighting. Historically, infected women were blamed and jailed with or without treatment. During this time, hospital camps were set up on a national scale for women to be sequestered for treatment. Dr. George Smullen, my father, worked in two Florida Rapid Treatment Camps, and I am sharing some of my family's experiences when we lived there.

The tale of William the Conqueror is written down by numerous contemporaries with various perspectives. It's a tale that would inspire some, while fascinate and even terrify others. It’s a tale of a man from a seemingly small land rising to rule one of the most powerful, stable kingdoms in all of Europe at the time - a kingdom that would sow the seeds of an empire that would sprout many centuries later.

Aunque las dos naciones parecían enemigos poco probables al comienzo de la segunda gran guerra, el derramamiento de sangre que tuvo lugar entre ellos sería mayor de lo que nadie podría haber imaginado.

All that time, Spain was told by others how to run their country, how to fight, whom to fight, and where to fight.
