  • E311: What Your Skin May Be Telling You About Your Health (Acne, Eczema, Hair Loss, and more!)
    2026/10/13

Have you ever wondered whether your recurring acne, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, dry skin, hair loss, hives, or keratosis pilaris could be telling you something about what is happening beneath the surface? In this episode, I’m breaking down eight common skin concerns and the functional nutrition patterns I look for, including gut health, hormones, blood sugar, nutrient status, immune function, stress, and more. I’ll walk you through the key contributors I investigate for each condition, the labs that may provide helpful clues, and why finding the root cause often requires looking beyond the skin itself.

  • E310: Recovery Capacity: Why Some Bodies Bounce Back and Others Don't with Lane Kennedy
    2026/10/06

What happens when a person who has spent decades optimizing their health, practicing mindfulness, and pushing themselves to perform suddenly collapses? In this episode, I’m joined by Lane Kennedy, a mindfulness teacher and DNA functional nutritionist, to talk about her experience with dysautonomia and the long road back to health. We explore the idea of recovery capacity, why rest is more than sleep, how layered stress can overwhelm the body, and practical ways to support nervous system regulation. We also discuss sleep, technology, exercise, peptides, and why learning to listen to your body may be one of the most important health skills you can develop.

    Meet Today’s Guest:

Lane Kennedy is a mindfulness teacher for the City of San Francisco and a DNA functional nutritionist who helps people better understand how their genetic blueprint can influence stress response, energy, and healing capacity. Her work combines functional nutrition, applied neuroscience, mindfulness, and nervous system regulation. After experiencing a collapse that led to dysautonomia and a long recovery, Lane now brings both professional expertise and lived experience to conversations about resilience, burnout, and recovery. She is also the author of Sobriety for Dummies and creator of Sober in San Francisco.

  • E309: She Did Everything “Right”—Then Had a Heart Attack at 48 with Heather Watkins
    2026/09/29

In this episode, I’m joined by Heather Watkins, a longtime fitness and wellness coach who experienced a heart attack at age 48 despite decades of healthy eating, regular exercise, and an incredibly active lifestyle. We talk about the warning signs she missed, the role genetics and family history can play in cardiovascular health, and why feeling fit and healthy doesn’t always tell the whole story. Heather also shares how her approach to exercise, nutrition, stress, boundaries, and sleep has changed since her heart attack. This is an empowering conversation about looking beyond the basics, advocating for your health, and understanding when it may be time to dig deeper.

    Meet Today's Guest:

Heather Watkins is the founder of Best Health Wellness, a coaching practice dedicated to helping women improve their metabolism, hormones, strength, and overall health. With more than 30 years of experience in fitness, nutrition, and wellness, she has built her career around helping women create sustainable, healthy lifestyles. After experiencing a heart attack at age 48, she became even more passionate about helping women understand their cardiovascular risk, advocate for their health, and look beyond the basics of wellness. Heather is also the author of The Wake Up Call and the ebook 5 Things Every Woman Needs to Know About Her Heart.
