Hang on tight for this one, we start off with a bad dad joke and then jump right into the hottest topic of the season. This is our 50th episode and it is probably the best one in years!
Meet Cyclospora, a parasite that only infect affects people and has been wreaking havoc on all vegetable and fruit lovers this year. We dig into exactly what this creature is and have a very informative interview with Uncle George, who is actually being treated for it right now. His real life experiences will hopefully save someone from weeks of needless suffering.
This creepy parasite didn’t even have an official name until 1994 and only lives inside people so very little is actually known about it since human trials are frowned upon. It starts out it’s life as a little spore that contains four baby parasites that hatch out inside you like aliens and then they attach to your intestines and start reproducing. If it sounds terrible it feels even worse. It even has its own season from May 1 through August 31. So bizarre.

We had a bit of a break and this episode was dedicated to doing a deep-dive into the reality of Radon in your home. We recently went thru the preparation for our annual certifications and wanted to share a lot of the shocking details of that training. Everyone with a slab, basement or ventless crawl space needs to listen to this one

Radon is a relatively newer contaminant with regulations in place for gas level testing and mitigation, but only Maine has anything related to Radon in water. We dig into what it is, where it comes from, and why you want to stay far away from it!
You can protect your home from the gas intrusion thru the soil and basements BUT you may be piping it in along with your water and not even realizing it.
Basically, almost every home should be at least tested for the gas as well as the water. Listen and get more details as well as how to fix it.

Have you ever picked up a water test strip and seen items like “Monopersulfate” or “Cyanuric acid” and others? Had you wondered what is this doing in my water? This episode digs into those oddball things and gives you the explanation of what they are and if they would normally be found in your water.

In this episode, we talk about the nitrogen cycle specifically how ammonia, nitrate and nitrate are related and how they can impact your health. Some interesting factoids along the way as usual! If you have an aquarium at your house that has been pulling your hair out this episode will explain a lot.
