• Can Inovo Become the YC of Central and Eastern Europe?
    2026/09/23

This episode weighs whether Inovo should evolve into a regional version of Y Combinator or keep its selective VC model. It compares YC's program-and-network approach with Inovo's focused capital and founder support, examining evidence from portfolio cases and founder accounts.

The host proposes a disciplined pilot: a 12-week buyer-access program for six CEE enterprise teams with clear metrics, budgets, and stopping rules to test repeatable access to customers and investors before scaling into a broader accelerator.

Recommendation: preserve selective investing as the core, run a bounded experiment to prove repeatable value, and only expand if the pilot demonstrates clear, measurable benefits.

  • DR003 - Can You Engineer a Sales Team? Lessons from HubSpot (UDD Data Room)
    2026/08/29

This episode examines whether sales can be engineered by using HubSpot as a case study: hiring scorecards, repeatable training ramps, funnel visibility, and heavy inbound lead flow that created fast feedback loops.

It explains what HubSpot did well — measure lead flow, standardize processes, and build partner channels — and warns what you can’t automate: customer demand, judgment, and context. Practical takeaways: define the job, map demand sources, standardize the repeatable, measure movement through the buyer journey, and keep humans in the loop to learn and adapt.

  • PE002: H&R Block vs D-Wave Quantum (Private & Equitable)
    2026/08/27

Two companies. Roughly the same market value. Almost nothing else in common.

H&R Block produces nearly $4 billion in annual revenue, substantial earnings and cash flow, and returns hundreds of millions to shareholders. D-Wave Quantum has only a few million dollars of current revenue, but growing bookings, more than $500 million of liquidity, and a bet on quantum computing becoming a major new technology platform.

Sterling takes H&R Block. Isaac takes D-Wave. Shepard moderates.

They argue what works today, what you are actually buying, what could kill each investment, and finally what happens when price enters the room.

At roughly $6.5–7.2 billion of equity value, would you rather own the proven cash-generating business facing long-term disruption, or the quantum-computing company whose enormous potential is already carrying an enormous valuation?

The question is not which is the better company. It is which is the better investment.

Market values and financial figures reflect the production snapshot used for this episode and may have changed since recording.

  • PE001: The Safe Bet vs The Big Bet (Private & Equitable)
    2026/08/26

You can own one of two businesses.

Marlow Supply is a mature specialist wholesaler with real customers, real revenue, a solid balance sheet and modest growth.

Kestrel Materials is a venture-backed deep-tech company with technical validation, institutional capital and much larger upside, but far less proof that the commercial model scales.

Sterling takes Marlow. Isaac takes Kestrel. Shepard moderates.

They go blow by blow through what works today, where the upside comes from, what can kill each company and, finally, what happens when price enters the room.

The question is not simply which is the better company. It is which is the better investment.

Companies and figures in this experimental matchup are synthetic composites based on public-company archetypes. The synthetic terms are designed to test investment judgment and are not claims about any specific source company.

Private & Equitable is an Unsolicited DD format built around comparative investment debates. The comparison is the product. The audience decides who advances.

  • DR001 - Juicero - The Test They Should Have Run Before Building It (Data Room)
    2026/08/25

Juicero raised more than $100 million to build an extraordinarily sophisticated connected juice press. Then reporters showed that its proprietary produce packs could be squeezed by hand, sometimes just as quickly as using the machine.

In the first episode of Unsolicited DD: Data Room, we look past the easy conclusion that Juicero was simply a ridiculous product. The more useful question is how experienced operators, engineers and investors ended up solving increasingly difficult engineering, manufacturing and scaling problems without continuously retesting whether the expensive centerpiece of the system was actually necessary.

The takeaway: don’t just ask whether you can engineer the product. Keep testing which part actually creates the customer value, and whether the difficult part needs to exist at all.
