    Episode 1 — "I Did" vs. "I Am"

    Show notes:

There's a thing you did. You didn't have to think about it, it came up the second you read that.

Somewhere after it happened, your brain did some math. It took the thing you did and turned it into a thing you are. Today is about catching that move, because those are two different sentences and only one of them is true.

"I did something monstrous" might be accurate. "I am a monster" is a verdict you handed down on yourself, in private, with no defense and no appeal.

It feels like accountability. It isn't. A man who believes he did something bad can go make it right. A man who believes he is something bad has nowhere to go, so he hides. And nobody you owe is collecting on your self-hatred. It never reaches them.

Today's rep: Catch yourself saying "I am." Just once. When the sentence starts with "I am a—" and ends in a word you'd never say to another man, change one word. I am becomes I did. You're not fixing anything today. You're refusing to sign a confession that isn't true.
