Here is the reaction, as it happened, from David Beckham in the days after the announcement, to Alex Ferguson and Gary Neville discussing it on the eve of the next season, Teddy Sheringham revealing he could have moved to United earlier to play alongside the Frenchman, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer giving his thoughts a few months later.
