    2026/09/16
In this episode, Kara sits down with Grammy, Oscar, and Emmy Award-winning artist Gabriella Wilson, known as H.E.R., right before the premiere of DreamWorks' Forgotten Island. Gabi talks about why she debuted anonymously at 18 and how her glasses got lighter and lighter until people could finally see her, being one Tony away from an EGOT, growing up half Black and half Filipino in the Bay Area with karaoke on her mom's side and blues concerts on her dad's, the joke she invented on the spot in the recording booth that made it into the actual film, what it felt like to bring her Filipino family to the Manila premiere and watch the crowd go crazy, the version of success she had to unlearn as the eldest Filipino daughter, and why she says she's Gabi before she's anything else. H.E.R. (Gabriella Wilson) is a Grammy, Academy Award, and Emmy-winning Filipino and African-American singer-songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and actress from Vallejo, California. She has won five Grammys, including Song of the Year for “I Can’t Breathe,” and an Oscar for “Fight for You” from Judas and the Black Messiah. Most recently, she voices Jo in DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island, in theaters September 25, 2026. • Miku Martineau
    2026/09/09
In this episode, Kara sits down with 21-year-old Canadian actress Miku Martineau, who just had Crew Girl drop on Netflix and is currently leading Bet Season 2. Miku talks about playing 2 completely different characters on the same platform, growing up half-Japanese, booking her first-ever role in Kate at 13 with no acting experience, playing young Michelle Yeoh in Star Trek: Section 31, being number 1 on the call sheet at 21, and why her love of side quests keeps her grounded. Miku Martineau is a rising Japanese-Canadian actress set to lead the upcoming Netflix series, “Crew Girl,” which is slated to release on the streaming platform on September 10, 2026. The coming-of-age drama follows 'Teagan Tao’ (Martineau), who becomes the coxswain of a dysfunctional all-boys rowing team at an elite East Coast Prep School. The series promises warring rivals, messy romantic engagements, and betrayed friendships that spill drama both in and out of the boat. Currently, Martineau is in production on season two of the Netflix psychological revenge thriller, “BET,” reprising her leading role as ‘Yumeko.’ Following its premiere in May 2025, the series saw viewership surge by 110% between its first and second weeks of release. Martineau first gained recognition starring opposite Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Woody Harrelson in her debut project, “Kate," the Netflix action thriller where she played the sharp and emotionally grounded ‘Ani.’ Since then, she has quickly emerged as one of Hollywood’s most exciting young talents, continuing to expand her work across film and television with roles in "Honor Society” opposite Angourie Rice and Gaten Matarazzo, "Star Trek: Section 31" opposite Michelle Yeoh, and most recently “The Miniature Wife” opposite Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfayden. Instagram: @miku.martineau Crew Girl premieres September 10, 2026 on Netflix. The series is a YA sports drama starring Miku Martineau as Teagan Tao, a 16-year-old rower who becomes the coxswain of an all-boys crew team at an elite prep school.
