Nina's friend Anna has been sober since August 2024. She got a taste for alcohol in her 20s while living in New York, as her career in the theatre and movie business took off. Jess has been sober since 21st June 2004. Having grown up in abject poverty in the New York projects under the most trying of circumstances, she found herself working in the White House following a colourful (if challenging) adolescence. For Jess, alcohol and drugs provided a release from the myriad traumas of her childhood - before her behaviour became so erratic in her early twenties she was compelled to stop.
