This podcast is for every daughter, son, spouse, partner, friend, and caregiver who has ever sat in a doctor's office taking notes, answered a call from the emergency room, argued about a walker, searched for the missing phone, or cried in a parking lot before pulling themselves together and walking back inside.

It's for the people who suddenly find themselves managing medications, appointments, paperwork, insurance, doctors, family dynamics, and decisions they never expected to have to make.

It's for the person who loves their aging parent deeply... and occasionally wants to scream into a pillow.

Because caregiving isn't just the big moments.

It's the endless little things.

The phone calls.

The questions.

The research.

The waiting rooms.

The "Did you take your medication?" conversations.

The arguments over whether Mom really needs that walker.

The guilt when you go home.

The guilt when you don't.

And the constant wondering:

Am I doing this right?

Here you'll find real stories, dark humor, hard-earned lessons, difficult decisions, and the occasional reminder that you're not losing your mind.

You're just doing one of the hardest jobs there is.

And sometimes the best thing you can do is laugh at the absurdity of it all.

I'll share what I've learned from the trenches of caregiving—including the things I wish someone had told me sooner—while figuring out how to advocate for someone you love without completely losing yourself in the process.

We'll talk about aging parents, medical crises, role reversal, caregiver guilt, family dynamics, impossible decisions, patient advocacy, recovery, independence, and all the wonderfully messy moments in between.

There won't always be an easy answer.

I'm definitely not a perfect caregiver.

I've gotten frustrated. I've made mistakes. I've second-guessed myself. I've had moments when I wanted to crawl under the covers and pretend I had never heard the words "care plan."

But I've also learned that sometimes the best we can do is make the best decision we can with the information we have—and then keep showing up.

That's what this podcast is about.

The messy middle.

The moments nobody prepares you for.

The things we laugh about because if we didn't laugh, we'd probably cry.

And the little victories that somehow become the biggest ones.

So welcome.

Pull up a chair.

Hide your emergency chocolate.

And join me as we navigate aging parents, impossible decisions, and caregiving chaos...

one meltdown at a time.

  • E013: Apparently, I Was Supposed to Know That: Rehab Hunting & Medical Mishaps
    2026/09/01
Welcome to caregiving, where you are suddenly promoted to Director of Google, Phone Calls, and Making Decisions Nobody Trained You For.In this episode of The Wicked Daughter, I’m deep in the trenches of finding a skilled nursing facility and rehabilitation facility for my aging parent—which, honestly, feels a lot like using a dating app. You keep expanding your radius, hoping someone will accept you, and trying not to take the rejection personally.Just when I thought I had a plan for Mom's hospital discharge and rehabilitation, hospital administration dropped a bomb: Mom was scheduled for a "minor" foot procedure on Monday.A procedure that was apparently one of the primary reasons she was admitted in the first place.Yet somehow...Nobody bothered to tell me.And that's when the caregiver rage begins.Because you can't ask about what you don't know. But somehow, when you're the family caregiver, you're still expected to know.In this episode, we talk about what it's really like to advocate for an aging parent in the hospital, navigate hospital discharge planning, search for skilled nursing and long-term care, communicate with doctors and healthcare professionals, and make medical decisions when you're missing critical information.Because apparently becoming a caregiver also comes with an unpaid second job:Running the Family News Network. You collect the information. You translate the medical jargon. You deliver the updates. You answer the questions. You reassure everyone. And then come the opinions. The panic. The "What did the doctor say?"The "What happens next?"The "Did they tell you why they're doing that?"Sometimes you're still trying to figure out what the doctor said yourself. And somehow, you're now responsible for managing everyone else's anxiety about your parent's crisis while quietly having your own.In this episode, we laugh through the pain of:The "Dating App" Approach to Rehab: Why finding an available skilled nursing or rehabilitation facility can feel like endlessly expanding your search radius and hoping someone says yes. The Missing Chart Memos: What happens when healthcare professionals assume the caregiver already knows about a procedure, treatment plan, or medical decision. The Family News Network: The exhausting reality of becoming the family information hub—collecting medical updates, explaining what happened, answering everyone's questions, managing their worry and opinions, and somehow reassuring everyone else when you're scared too. Caregiver Advocacy: Why being an effective advocate for an aging parent sometimes means asking questions, asking again, and learning to ask questions you didn't even know you needed to ask. The Medical Mishaps: Because apparently caregiving wasn't complicated enough without surprise procedures. If you're caring for an aging parent, helping a parent recover from an accident or hospitalization, searching for a rehab facility, navigating skilled nursing or long-term care, dealing with hospital discharge planning, or trying to figure out how to advocate for your parent in the healthcare system, you're going to recognize this one.Because sometimes caregiving isn't about knowing what to do.Sometimes it's about figuring out what the hell you're supposed to know in the first place. And when you survive another day of phone calls, paperwork, medical decisions, family questions, and wondering whether anyone actually communicated with anyone else...We're calling that a win.Send us your comments! Before you head back to medication schedules, insurance paperwork, and explaining to your parent for the fifteenth time why they can't climb on a chair to change a lightbulb...Grab your free Caregiver Emergency Checklist at TheWickedDaughter.com.If you're enjoying the podcast, please leave a review. • E012: Discharge? She's Not Even Out of Bed!
    2026/08/25

    Mom was finally getting better.

Her lungs were improving. Her heart was stable. Her broken leg was healing.

So why were we suddenly talking about hospital discharge?

Discharge? She's Not Even Out of Bed!!

That was the moment I realized caregiving was changing.

I wasn't just trying to get my 88-year-old mom through a medical crisis anymore. I was suddenly trying to figure out what came next—rehab, long-term care, her independence, and what all of this meant for the life we'd built.

In this episode, I take you inside my first care conference and the reality of planning for an aging parent while you're still in the middle of the crisis.

Because when you're dealing with a medical emergency, your brain is focused on today:

    Get through the procedure.
    Get her breathing.
    Get her eating.
    Get her stronger.
    Get through tonight.

Then your parent starts getting better...

    And suddenly someone asks:

“So where is she going when she leaves here?”

    Um...

I was busy keeping her alive.

This is the part of family caregiving that can catch you completely off guard—the transition from hospital care to rehabilitation and long-term care, when the immediate emergency is fading, but the big decisions are just beginning.

And those decisions aren't only about your aging parent.

They can affect your home, your marriage, your finances, your plans, your freedom, and your future.

Because caregiving doesn't always come with a clear roadmap. Sometimes you're making life-changing decisions while you're still trying to understand what just happened.

And sometimes the hardest part isn't knowing what to do.

It's realizing you don't have all the answers.

If you're caring for an aging parent, helping a parent recover after a hospitalization, navigating rehab or long-term care, or wondering what caregiving might look like someday, this episode is for you.

The Wicked Daughter isn't a caregiving advice podcast where someone hands you a perfect checklist.

It's the real-life experience of caring for an aging parent while you're still figuring it out yourself—with dark humor, aggravation, difficult decisions, and the occasional “Are you kidding me?”

Because sometimes you don't need another checklist.

You just need to know somebody else gets it.

In this episode, we tackle the reality of:

    • The Care Conference Shock: The sudden shift from fighting a medical emergency to being told it's time to plan a discharge.
    • The Family News Network Broadcast: Broadcasting medical updates to the entire family tree, only to absorb their identical panic and answer questions you don’t even have the answers to yet.
    • The Backup Plan Breakdown: Balancing the life you planned (hello, snowbird life) with the reality of an unexpected crisis.
    • Packing over 37 years into boxes: The unique, heavy heartbreak of cleaning out a parent’s home when they aren't the ones doing the moving.
    • The Desire to Resign: Admitting the dark, honest truth—that being told "you're doing a great job" sometimes just makes you want to quit.

  • E010: Good News! There's a New Problem.
    2026/08/24

Mom survived the ICU. She was finally breathing on her own. The crisis was over.

    Or so I thought.

Recovery turned out to be a whole new battle.

One day we're celebrating a successful swallow test. Great, mom can eat but she can't hold a fork. Her oxygen improves, but a new complication pops up. Every tiny victory seems to come with another hurdle.

In this episode of The Wicked Daughter, I share what no one tells caregivers about recovery after a medical crisis. It's not one miraculous breakthrough—it's hundreds of small victories, constant setbacks, and learning to celebrate things most people would never notice.

We'll talk about why accepting help is harder than it sounds, how caregivers redefine what "progress" really means, and the surprising reason my niece feeding Mom taught me one of the biggest lessons of the entire journey.

Just when it feels like we're finally moving forward, another unexpected twist changes everything. Mom isn't ready to go home... and she's not well enough for rehab.

    Good news.

    There's a new problem.
