So, do you struggle with where are you going in life? Why am I stuck in this rut? Things have got to get better or I’m going to explode? You can’t shake your past, struggle with your present, and have no idea what the future holds?

Well you are not alone and today we are going to share some insights on growing right where you are planted or have been transplanted.

I get we all have feelings and emotional responses to things that happen in our lives – we are human beings…..we all have good days and bad days, maybe even bad weeks or months……we can’t live life on that roller coaster of how we feel at any given moment.

We can’t treat people on a daily basis based on how we feel that day.

We also can’t suppress our feelings and emotions and just suck it up buttercup.

I saw this quote by Stephen Covey a few days ago:

“Always treat your employees exactly as you want them to treat your best customers.”

My 1st thought….how do you want your employees to treat your worst customers, when you are having a bad day?

Take cops…who are our best customers? How do we treat people on our worst day?

How about in family lives? Our faith lives? If we let how we feel rule how we act, we are in for some really rough times. Sometimes we need to learn how to control or manage our feelings before they drag us down into the depths of depression or despair.

In LE, many labels are attached to the job called Police Officer – some not so nice. Law Enforcer. Protector. Cop. Pig. Problem Solver. Servant. Social Worker. Warrior. Guardian. Sheepdog. Seems everyone has their idea of how to describe, label, in one or two words what makes a police officer a police officer.

Why is Warrior such a bad word in these discussions?

Should we even be labeling ourselves as a Warrior, Guardian or Sheepdog? Why not just stick with Police Officer?

Me? I will always pick Warrior any day of the week – at work, home and in my faith life.

How often have you been hung by your tongue? I lost count how many times it has happened to me. How many times I have said something I regretted, the moment it left my lips.

How do you define success? Not an easy questions to answer, is it? Why? Because “success” is someone else’s opinion of your value or worth to them. Success is in the eye of the beholder.

“Success” is overrated. It can be given or taken away in the blink of an eye. One day you are the national hero, the next you are being vilified as a nazi – just ask Elon Musk. One day you are the record holder in your sport, the next you are a disgrace because you were accused of betting on your own sport.

So what is more important than being successful? Being a person of influence and impact in the lives of other people. Today’s short episode takes a look into what I mean. Are you a Doubting Thomas? I am…..sometimes. Why did Thomas doubt others had seen Christ in person after the resurrection? Was it fear, was it envy that he missed it, was it guilt for not being there? We probably will never know for certain.

What we do know he said he would not believe unless he came face to face with Jesus and put his fingers in the nail wounds and his hand into the His side.

How often are we like Thomas and doubt others, ourselves, our circumstances our options to cast away our doubts? Do we pull a Thomas and demand proof - even if it is actually good news? Do we say, screw it and walk away?

Today was a really tough day and I came to some clarity on the matter.
