    2026/08/12

Our reviews are excellent, so we're fine online. It is the most common thing law firm principals say about being found, and half of it is true while the other half is quietly costing them clients they never hear about. This episode covers what reviews do brilliantly, the one thing they mechanically cannot do, the two minute test that shows you which layer your firm is missing, and why the gap is widening rather than closing as AI answers arrive.

    WHAT WE COVER

    - Why reviews win at the moment of decision, and where they legitimately help rankings

    - Why they cannot rank you for the searches clients actually run

    - The two search test, and what the contrast tells you

    - Why the blog you tried once did not work

    - How published content and reviews feed each other

    WHAT TO DO THIS WEEK

Run the two search test, screenshot both, and publish the answer to the question where you were most absent.

  • 10: The Phone Call That Never Happened
    2026/08/05

Somebody recommended your firm at a barbecue on Saturday and meant it, and she still hasn't rung you. What happened in between is a check that almost every referred client now makes before they contact a law firm, and it either confirms everything they were told about you or quietly fails to, and either way you never find out it happened.

This episode is about the checkpoint sitting in the middle of every referral you will ever receive, why the loss leaves no trace anywhere in your practice, and what a presence that closes a referral actually looks like.

    What we cover

    • The phone call that never happened, and why it is invisible from inside the firm
    • Why referrals and online visibility stopped being separate channels years ago
    • The two versions of that Sunday night, and the difference between them
    • The generation who never enter your referral pipeline at all
    • Concentration risk, and the analysis you would run for a client but never for yourself
    • Why referral networks erode by default while published content compounds

    What to do this week

Open a browser you are not signed into and look yourself up the way that friend from the barbecue would. Your firm's name, then your own name, then family lawyer plus your suburb. Ask one question of what you see, which is whether it confirms what she was just told about you.

  • 09: Five Gaps, One Pattern
    2026/07/29

Review enough law firm websites in a short space of time and something strange happens. You stop taking individual notes, because you're writing the same five things every time.

This episode walks all five gaps: unanswered client questions, an untended Google profile, a faceless firm, a frozen clock, and a presence that fails to confirm the firm's real reputation. Then the harder question: why they survive in smart, well-run practices, and why nobody inside the firm can see them.

    WHAT WE COVER:

    • The five gaps that appear in almost every law firm
    • Why they're invisible from the inside, and obvious from the outside
    • Why not one of them is about being a better lawyer
    • The order of attack, fastest wins first
    • What a firm looks like twelve months after closing all five

    WHAT TO DO THIS WEEK:

The wince test. Open your own website and Google profile and read the list against them. One gap will make you wince harder than the others. That's your starting point, because it's the gap you already suspected.

  • 08: The New Front Page: When AI Recommends Lawyers
    2026/07/22

People now ask AI tools to recommend lawyers, and the answers are built entirely from the published record. Firms with a real content footprint exist in those answers. Firms with a brochure website gave the AI nothing, so they get nothing. This episode covers how the mechanism works, why it lands hardest in family law, why nobody can game it, and the first page to publish.

    WHAT WE COVER:

    - The new front page: answers instead of links

    - How AI decides which firms exist

    - Why private AI chats are where family law research is moving

    - Why there's no ad slot and no trick, and what that means

    - The ninety second baseline test for your own firm

    WHAT TO DO THIS WEEK:

Ask an AI your clients' three most common questions plus who it recommends in your area. Note the answer. Then publish a

clear answer to your most-asked question on your site. The record gets built one page at a time.

  • 07: Marketing Sensitive Expertise Without Exploiting It
    2026/07/15

A lot of good professionals never become visible because marketing their expertise feels like exploiting other people's pain. This episode is about how to be found without being tacky, especially for family law and other sensitive work. The answer is to stop thinking about promotion and start thinking about clarity for frightened people.

    WHAT WE COVER:

    • Why the instinct that marketing feels exploitative is a good instinct
    • The difference between sensational and trustworthy content, with a worked example on the family home question
    • The empty chair test that keeps every piece of content on the right side of the line
    • What pre-educated clients do to your consultations, and why calm content makes you more referable to your peers, not less

    WHAT TO DO THIS WEEK:

Take one piece of content, yours or a firm's you admire, and ask a single question: does this centre the client and their understanding, or the firm and the fight? If it's the second, rewrite it to lead with the client's situation.

  • 06: The Client Researching You at Midnight
    2026/07/08

The real beginning of a family law client relationship isn't the first phone call. It's a private, frightened Google search weeks earlier, often at 11pm. In this episode I talk about how family law firms can be present and trusted at that exact moment, instead of invisible.

    WHAT WE COVER:

    • Why trust is built during the private research phase, not the comparison phase
    • The 11pm search and what people actually type
    • Why your expertise is invisible until you publish it
    • The five-questions exercise to start

    WHAT TO DO THIS WEEK:

Write the five questions you answer most in first consults. Answer one in plain language. That's your first piece of content that meets a client at the moment of need.

  • 05: The AI Workflow
    2026/07/01

Everyone's talking about using AI for content. Almost nobody is talking about how to do it without producing the generic, soulless stuff that actively damages your credibility.

In this episode I walk through the principle that makes AI genuinely useful for professional services firms: stop asking it to write, and start asking it to structure. Your expertise and your voice stay yours. AI just handles the production work that eats the time.

If you've ever tried to use AI for content and hated the result, this is the episode that fixes it.

    WHAT WE COVER:

    - The one distinction that separates useful AI content from generic AI sludge

    - Why "write me a blog post about X" is the wrong instruction

    - How to keep your voice and judgment in control while AI does the heavy lifting

    - The rule that protects you: never put client data into a public AI tool

    WHAT TO DO THIS WEEK:

Pick one question your clients ask you all the time. Talk through the answer out loud for ten minutes and record it on your phone. That recording, not a blank page, is where good AI-assisted content starts. Your expertise, in your words, that AI can then help you shape.

  • 04: The Content That Actually Works for Professional Services Firms
    2026/06/24

Everyone tells professional services firms they should be "doing content." Almost nobody tells them what content actually works. So they post a team photo, a public holiday graphic, a quote tile, and wonder why nothing happens.

In this episode I get specific. The content that actually brings in clients for law firms, accounting practices, financial planners and allied health. Not theory. The formats I've seen work consistently, and the ones that waste everyone's time.

    WHAT WE COVER:

    - Why most professional services content fails before anyone even sees it

    - The single most valuable type of content you can make, and why almost nobody makes it

    - The difference between content that builds warmth and content that gets you found, and why you need both

    - How one good piece of content becomes a week of posts across every channel

    WHAT TO DO THIS WEEK:

Pick the single question you get asked most by new clients. Write the answer the way you'd explain it across the desk. That's a blog post, a video, a carousel, and a podcast segment from one answer. Start there. One question, properly answered, beats ten generic posts.
