  • The Slouch on the Couch
    2024/01/26
Steve receives an economically worded and instructive email with ideas about how to obtain information on the Internet. He’s been tasting a lot of dirt these days. We also learn that there are two couches in the Dahl household, each with a very specific purpose. Mike Dahl is keeping a close, and very Steve-like, eye on the upcoming family trip to Hawaii. Janet joins us today, with some stories about motel sanitization from her childhood. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

  • Gummies and Glögg
    2023/12/14
Steve has a bilingual morning, as he has finally had Rosie’s invisible fence repaired. He seems to have regained his childhood command of Spanish, and it’s been accompanied by all sorts of other recollections from his early years. Jon Bon Jovi and Abe Lincoln team with Steve and Brendan to comfort a despondent Dag, who imbibed a little too much at Simon’s last night, and derailed the Expo’76 set closer. He’s hoping to get back in his bandmates’ good graces. Today’s show (another holiday classic in the making?) also takes a deep dive into the history of the top hat. Hold on tight! • Captain Whammo (R.I.P.)
    2023/11/09
Today we celebrate the on-air craziness of the late Captain Whammo, a major figure in late ‘70s Chicago radio. His airchecks are out of this world, so hold on tight. Though their relationship was complicated at the start, Rosie seems to be missing Cooper around the house. Steve worked late into the night perfecting the recording of the Zanies show, which is set for delivery tomorrow. Janet joins us to break down the Ward & June Cleaver dynamic of the Dahl household. Steve’s headed for a fitness evaluation, to see if he can get some things under control. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

  • Signature Room Signs Off
    2023/10/23
Today we attempt to answer the raging question: what’s new with David Byrne? We’re joined by Buzz Kilman, who once swam in a pool with the rock legend, during the formulation of an epic cinematic idea. Buzz is also confused by a Dag lookalike on Facebook. This week’s Virginia Monologues is a forest of comedy gold. Rosie finds a mouse in the backyard; did she eat it? Brendan brings some sad news about a Chicago landmark, a place where Steve was wooed and wined and dined to come to Chicago. Steve also hopes to find success with his new doo-wop group. • The Buzz Brothers (Ep.1)
    2023/09/11
Today we celebrate the Union League Club building in downtown Chicago, and the awesomeness of old buildings in general. Steve turns to AI for a creative experiment, and The Buzz Brothers are born. We learn of Smokey Robinson’s most recent album, Gasms, and we spin a few choice hot moments of that collection. There’s good news from the world of Mexican/Tex-Mex food: Steve is finally eating his rice and beans. Also, at long last, Talk To Me Tuesday finally arrives. Learn more about your ad choices. • Disco Demolition
    2023/07/17
Steve had to pump out his eight rain barrels, after the area was once again pummeled by heavy rains. Dag was distraught, but ultimately bemused, by a pricy tapas dinner in the city last night. Steve received an odd but somewhat amusing email from a former listener. Joe Gaspar joins us today, and confirms that his sister recently met Steve. We play a new song from friends of the show, The Baseball Project. It’s called Disco Demolition, and guess what… today is the 44th anniversary of that notorious and largely misunderstood event. The song features one of Steve’s favorite rhymes ever. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

  • Dandelion Whine
    2023/05/16
Today’s a great day to open up an orange soda and let your lawn grow. Steve recalls the magic of a Nesbitt’s Orange Soda on the sunshine-soaked California ocean afternoons of his youth. He and Janet attended Emmett’s baseball game and Steve’s running commentary was peppered with ideas to improve the game and speed up play. Luckily, we weren't able to hear the actual audio from steve's iPhone. Joe and Steve fondly recall their burrito hunting days. Steve owes Anna Beleval and apology. Sewer diving is a thing, and apparently a TV show too. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

  • The $17,000 Guitar
    2023/04/26
Steve goes to Guitar Center to return a faulty item and encounters some pushback from the tattooed employees. The event, while ultimately settled, spoils plans for a proposed cheeseburger dinner. The legendary bassist Flea has a tummy emergency, and the very same Target employees that fawned over him upon his arrival refuse to let him use the employee washroom. He pushes through a series of troubling events before relief arrives in the nick of time. Brendan sat in the bleachers for an unbelievable night at Wrigley Field. Dag poses the question: Would you give a foul ball or homerun you caught to kid? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
