  • Create Your Own Lane (You’ll piss people off, Do It Anyway) Season 5 Promo
    2025/08/04

Season 5 of The Real Recovery Podcast begins this fall 🍂🍁

    And I’m holding NOTHING back.

    It’ll be

    explosive.

    It’ll be

    healing.

    And a

    community will be built.

We don’t wait for the moment to be right,

    we create the moment.

We don’t wait for an avenue of opportunity to open,

    we create the lane.

And we don’t perpetuate the concepts of suffering alone and in silence,

we come together, loudly, taking up as much space necessary, respectfully, and we use our experience and our voice.

We harbor an atmosphere of change and we don’t stop until we are heard.

  • Late Life Onset of Addiction: Being the Adult Child of an Addict
    2025/05/30

    ⚠️ Trigger Warning ⚠️

This episode of The Real Recovery Podcast deals with death, dysfunctional family dynamics, and alcohol and drug addiction. Listener discretion encouraged.

In this episode I bring listeners inward for a candid and vulnerable experience as I process the recent death of my dad and explore his experience of becoming an addict much, much later in life. My dad died February 9, 2025 after a 15 year quiet battle with alcoholism and the many,

    many health problems that accompanied.

The onset of addiction late in life is NOT an anomalous or even rare occurrence.

Through my personal experience I have taken note of what I felt to be contributing factors not only to his addiction but on a much broader view —

the people and the mindsets that serve to exacerbate and even cover up an older person’s addiction.

I also feature two phenomenal studies and worked closely with the very people championing one of them in order to bring clarity and order to what appears to be a chaotic occurrence.

    I’d like to thank

Yale School of Medicine for their unyielding persistence in addiction medicine and for their groundbreaking target study.

    And also our sponsor

  • If You’re Struggling With Opioid Dependency Boulder Care Telehealth Outpatient Is Here For You
    2025/04/27

Did you know that in The United States individuals battling substance use disorder face a multitude of very specific barriers that often hinder or prevent much needed access to addiction treatment?

Boulder Care Outpatient is revolutionizing addiction treatment through

whole person comprehensive care that includes an entire care team (with the option to include your personal PCP and mental health clinicians on every virtual video appointment!) dedicated to helping you live a healthy, sober life on your terms.

    For more information visit the

Boulder Care website or download their app (compatible with iOS and Android)

You can fill out the assessment questionnaire and be seen by an intake coordinator and complete your first visit with a prescribing clinician TODAY

Boulder Care lowers barriers standing in the way of traditional outpatient addiction treatment by offering comprehensive

telehealth, virtual outpatient addiction treatment with same day medication prescriptions (subject to prescribing clinician’s approval) including the most effective opioid use disorder medication, SOBOXONE delivered safely right to your preferred pharmacy.

Boulder Care is evidence-based and treats the entire, whole person by offering dedicated and formally trained peer support who all come stock with their own lived experience in active drug addiction and who have at least 3 years of consistent clean time who are accessible 24/7 via the app.

Boulder Care believes in a multimodal approach that works.

Even though evidence-based treatment for opioid use disorders (OUD) is effective, almost four in five Americans with OUD do not receive any form of treatment. The gap in access to evidence-based care, including treatment with medications for OUD, stems in part from barriers to change within the health care system. This paper includes nine key barriers that prevent access to evidence-based care, including stigma; inadequate clinical training; a dearth of addiction specialists; lack of integration of MOUD provision in practice; regulatory, statutory, and data sharing restrictions; and financial barriers. Action from a number of actors is urgently needed to address this crisis” (Read the entire peer reviewed paper by clicking HERE
