  • Why Your Creative Business Needs a Fall Reset
    2026/09/08

Every September, I watch the same pattern play out among the independent authors and creative professionals I work with. The summer gets loose — travel, kids home from school, a slower inbox, permission to let a few things slide. And then Labor Day passes, the air changes just slightly, and there is this collective exhale where everyone looks around and asks the same question: where did the year go, and what do I actually have to show for it?

That question can either spiral you into panic about the four months you have left, or it can become the most useful planning tool you will use all year. Today, I want to show you how to use it the second way. We are going to walk through six areas of your creative business that deserve a genuine fall reset — not a guilt trip, not a total overhaul, a reset — and by the end of this episode, you are going to have a clear, doable plan for finishing this year strong instead of just finishing it.

  • The 5 Steps to Join the PS2Y Creative Business Community
    2026/09/01

Most weeks, I hand you a strategy, a mindset shift, or a hard truth about pricing, marketing, or building your creative business the right way. Today, I want to do something more practical. I want to hand you a map. Because here is what I have noticed over the last several months: I talk about the Pam Speaks 2 You Creative Business Community constantly on this show. I mention the app. I mention the coaching. I mention the Branding and Marketing Academy. And every week, I get messages — DMs, emails — from people who say some version of the same thing: "Pam, I keep meaning to join. I just do not know exactly where to start, or what happens once I do."

If that is you, today's episode is for you specifically. I am going to walk you through the five simple steps to join our creative business community, in order, exactly the way I would if you and I were sitting across from each other with coffee. No confusion, no guessing, no getting three clicks in and closing the tab because you are not sure what you are looking at. Five steps. Fifteen minutes of your time, maybe less. And by the end of it, you will not just be a member on paper — you will know exactly how to start getting real value out of this community from day one.

I also want to spend real time today on why this matters — why community, specifically, is not a nice extra on top of your creative business, but something closer to a requirement if you want to build something sustainable. So grab your coffee or your tea, settle in, and let's talk about exactly how to join the Pam Speaks 2 You Creative Business Community — and everything waiting for you once you do.

Every week after an episode is published, you can discuss the episode with other PS2Y members and me in the customized room for the Creative Business Podcast.

  • The Top 3 Mistakes That Are Killing Your Creative Business
    2026/08/25

Today I want to talk about subtraction. I want to talk about the three things that, if you are doing them right now, are quietly working against every other good decision you are making in your creative business.

Here is why this episode exists. I consistently talk to independent authors and creative professionals, and I keep noticing the same pattern. People are always looking for the next tactic. The better Instagram caption. The smarter email subject line. The trending TikTok sound. And sometimes those things genuinely help. But far more often, what I find when I actually look under the hood of someone's creative business is not a shortage of tactics. It is one, two, or all three of the mistakes I am a

bout to walk you through today — mistakes so foundational, so baked into how a lot of us were taught to think about creative work, that most people do not even recognize them as mistakes. They just feel like "the way it is."

I want to change that for you today.

  • Why Nobody Is Buying Your Stuff
    2026/08/11

Today's episode is one I have been turning over in my mind for a while, because it addresses something I hear from independent authors and creative professionals constantly — and not just from beginners. I hear it from people who have been doing this for years, people who have real talent, real products, and real effort behind them. And what they say, in different words and different tones — frustrated, confused, embarrassed, sometimes quietly devastated — is essentially the same thing:

    Nobody is buying my stuff.

My book is not moving. My coaching program is not filling. My services are sitting there, and nothing is happening. I post, I email, I show up — and still, nothing.

If that sounds familiar, I want you to hear something very clearly before we go any further: this is not about the quality of your work. The gap between what you create and whether it sells is real, fixable, and it has a name. Several names, actually. And we are going to go through every one of them today.

So grab your coffee or your tea, settle in, and let us talk about why nobody is buying your stuff — and exactly what you can do to change that.

  • 5 Ways You're Sabotaging Your Sales Conversations
    2026/08/04

You finish a call with a prospect. It went great — they laughed at your jokes, they said "this is exactly what I need," and they said, "let me think about it and get back to you." And then... nothing. No email. No follow-up. Silence.

If that's ever happened to you, I want you to know something right now: it probably wasn't your offer. It probably wasn't your price. It was something you did — or didn't do — in the conversation itself.

I'm Pamela Hilliard Owens, and this is Pam Speaks 2 You, the podcast for independent authors and creative professionals who are building real, sustainable businesses around their work. Today we're talking about five specific ways you are sabotaging your own sales conversations — and exactly what to do instead.

  • The Monthly Reset
    2026/07/28

Why (and How) to Review Your Goals Before the Month Ends

    Happy Tuesday!

Quick question: when's the last time you actually looked at the goals you set for yourself — not the ones from January, the ones from this month — and asked, "How am I actually doing on these?"

If you just got a little uncomfortable, good. Stay with me. That discomfort is exactly what today's episode is for.

Welcome back to the Pam Speaks 2 You Creative Business Podcast, the show where we talk about the real, unglamorous, absolutely necessary business components of being an independent author or creative professional. I'm Pamela Hilliard Owens, and today we're talking about something that sounds almost too simple to deserve a full episode: reviewing your goals at the end of the month.

  • What the Lack of Clarity is Costing You
    2026/07/21

Here's a question I want you to sit with before we even say hello.

If a total stranger landed on your website, scrolled your Instagram, or picked up your book right now — could they tell, in about ten seconds, who you are, who your work is for, and why any of it matters to them?

Not "sort of." Not "if they read three more posts." In ten seconds.

If you hesitated even a little — good. Stay right there, because this episode was built for exactly that hesitation.

  • What Creative Freedom Means
    2026/07/14

Welcome to Season 2, Episode 19 of the Pam Speaks 2 You Creative Business Podcast — the podcast for independent authors and creative professionals who are done playing small and ready to build something real. I am your host, Pamela Hilliard Owens, and I am so glad you are here with me today.

Whether you are listening on the Pam Speaks 2 You app, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts — welcome. I mean that every single week, but I mean it a little extra today, because we are talking about a phrase that gets thrown around a lot in creative circles, and I do not think it gets unpacked nearly enough.

    That phrase is "creative freedom."

You have heard it. Maybe you have said it yourself. "I just want the creative freedom to write what I want." "I left my job for creative freedom." "That is what this business is supposed to give me — freedom." It sounds wonderful. It sounds like the whole point. And yet, I talk to independent authors and creative professionals every single week who have all the freedom in the world on paper — nobody telling them what to do, no boss, no committee, no gatekeeper — and they feel more stuck, more anxious, and less free than they did when someone else was setting the rules.
