What does it mean to serve God rather than wealth? In this episode of The Mindful Sojourner, Rev. Rachel Isabell reflects on Luke 16:1–13 and the parable of the shrewd manager. Jesus’ unsettling story asks us to consider where our true treasure lies and which master we choose to serve.

Drawing on the wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola, we explore his call to freedom through detachment and the practice of ordering our loves. You will be guided into silence through an Ignatian examen, pausing to ask with honesty and hope: Where is my treasure today?

Join us on this contemplative journey and discover the freedom that comes with entrusting all things to God.

What does it mean to be sought and celebrated by God? In this episode of The Mindful Sojourner, Rev. Rachel Isabell reflects on Luke 15:1–10 and the parables of the lost sheep and the lost coin. These stories reveal a God who searches tirelessly, who carries us home, and who rejoices when the lost are found.

Drawing on the wisdom of St. John of the Cross, we consider how God’s love continues to reach us even in the dark night of the soul. You will be guided into silence with a breath prayer, “You search for me, You carry me home,” and an imaginative practice of resting in the shepherd’s care.

Join us on this contemplative journey and awaken to God’s pursuing love, and discover the joy of being found.

What does it mean to truly follow Jesus? In this episode of The Mindful Sojourner, Rev. Rachel Isabell reflects on Luke 14:25–33 and the call to count the cost of discipleship. Through Scripture, reflection, and the wisdom of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, we explore how surrender to Christ reorders our loyalties and frees us for a deeper, more intentional life of faith.

You will be guided through a breath prayer, “Christ, I surrender all,” and a streamside visualization to release burdens and rest in God’s presence.

Join us on this contemplative journey to awaken to Scripture, cultivate mindfulness, and walk more fully in Christ’s love.

In this first episode of The Mindful Sojourner, Rev. Rachel Isabell introduces the journey we will take together each week. We examine how the liturgical calendar originated in the early Church and why Christians continue to observe it today. We also learn more about the Christian mystics and reflect on the life of Julian of Norwich, a mystic who spoke of God’s love in the midst of plague and church division.

The episode closes with a breath prayer, a mindfulness practice that you can carry into your own week. New episodes will be released every Wednesday, along with resources coming soon to help you stay connected. Subscribe, share with a friend, and consider supporting the show to help this ministry continue to grow.
