• KOI: A Twilight Zone Show - The Night of the Meek #47
    2025/09/06

Spoiler alert: this week we’re analyzing the Twilight Zone episode “The Night of the Meek.” Henry Corwin, played by the great Art Carney, is a department store Santa with a big heart and a penchant for a bit of the drink. He loves children and the magic of Christmas, but more than anything, he just wishes that, for one Christmas, those who are in need of the most could be given the most. And when the Twilight Zone steps in, he realizes that he just might have been given his wish. In this episode, we’re going to try and reconcile the commercialization of the holidays with gift-giving; we’ll take a look at the relationship between substance abuse and the holiday season; and for my moment of awe, I’m going to bring in the man, the myth, the legend himself, Rod Serling, to talk about his favorite Christmas. So, grab your keys, and let's unlock this door to the fifth dimension. As always, spoiler alert. If you have note seen the episode, go check it out and then come back here for the analysis. We're walking through Rod Serling's class Twilight Zone series and asking difficult questions about life. So, if you love The Twilight Zone, science fiction, or even just philosophizing about life, consider joining us on this journey. There's always room for more.

  • KOI: A Twilight Zone Show - The Lateness of the Hour #44
    2025/07/19

This week we’re taking a look at the Twilight Zone episode “The Lateness of the Hour”. Jana, played by Inger Stevens, is growing more and more tired of living a life inside her parents’ home. Like most young adults, she wants to live, to experience life. However, her parents decided years ago to withdraw from society, from all of the violence and potential plagues. What is adding to Jana’s feeling of isolation is the knowledge that the servants are nothing more than clever robots. Oh, Dr. Loren, played by John Hoyte, has infused a kind of will within them, but it just isn’t the same. It’s time for Jana to put her foot down and give her parents an ultimatum: either the servants go or she does. Well, in true Twilight Zone fashion, it’s a bit more complicated than that. In this episode, we’ll inquire into why Dr. Loren built will into his robots; we’ll dive into the possibility of this arrangement becoming the norm in the future; and I’ll reveal my moment of awe, a look into the potential for personalities in our AI. So, grab your keys and let’s open up this door to the fifth dimension. As always, spoiler alert. If you have note seen the episode, go check it out and then come back here for the analysis. • KOI: A Twilight Zone Show - Eye of the Beholder #42
    2025/06/21

This week, we’re taking a look at the Twilight Zone episode “Eye of the Beholder.” Janet Tyler lives in a world behind a set of bandages, ones that cover not merely her face, but her thoughts. This is her final visit, the last chance for doctors to fix her deformed face. If they are successful, she will be able to take her place with the rest of normal society; however, if her visage is unchanged, she will need to be removed–one way or another. You see, in this Twilight Zone reality, people need to look a certain way and conform to that way, else they are not allowed to co-exist with the rest of society. Oh, the State does allow for undesirables to live; they just can’t live with everyone else. They must be removed. By the end of the episode, it is clear that Rod Serling has something to say about how we so easily accept the State coming in to take control, and I have a bit to say about this as well. In this KOI episode, we’ll talk about why Serling uses “The State” as concept; we’ll dive into whether or not there is any hope for us to cling to at the end; and I’ll reveal my moment of awe, a bit of a plea for the importance of discomfort. So, grab your keys, and let’s open up this door to the fifth dimension. As always, spoiler alert. If you have note seen the episode, go check it out and then come back here for the analysis. • KOI: A Twilight Zone Show - The Howling Man - #41
    2025/06/07

We're taking a look at one of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes this week: "The Howling Man." It's the story of David Ellington, played by H.M. Wynant. A man on a backpacking trip through Europe, gets caught in a bad storm. He finds an old castle being run by an order of monks, but something is not right. Rather than help David, they want him to leave. And there is a strange sound ringing throughout the halls of the castle, a howling. When David learns that there is a man being held captive in the castle, he tries to confront the head of the order, Brother Jerome, played by John Carradine. What happens next is something that David will never forget. We'll talk about why David is so easily tricked; we'll discuss why he feels so comfortable trusting the maid at the end; and I'll reveal my moment of awe, one that is roughly 20 years in the making. So, grab your keys, and let's unlock this door to the fifth dimension. As always, spoiler alert. If you have note seen the episode, go check it out and then come back here for the analysis.
